http://100gf.wordpress.com/2011/11/20/egyptian-military-say-their-tactics-are-no-worse-than-the-methods-used-by-us-police-against-occupy-protesters/

The Egyptian military, battling renewed demonstrations in Tahrir Square, have defended their used of force against protesters by comparing themselves to police in the US who are dealing with the Occupy protests.

According to various sources, officials on Egyptian TV have asked why they are being criticised when similar tactics are allegedly being used against peaceful protesters in America.

Yes, I admit this isn't a totally reliable source, but if any of you can confirm, post about it.

7. D-oh!
There you have it... no moral high ground for YOU!

There was a small window when our POTUS or the WH could have said something about the violation of Constitutional rights and Violence...but it is closed now methinks. Anything he says from here out will either be pandering or pandering...

10. Yep. Words are important, and absence of words have dire
consequences.

Whoever is advising the President on all this needs to be shown the door ASAP (IMHO).

16. the silence from the WH is deafening.
and words matter:

"So I want to be very clear in calling upon the Egyptian authorities to refrain from any violence against peaceful protestors. The people of Egypt have rights that are universal. That includes the right to peaceful assembly and association, the right to free speech, and the ability to determine their own destiny. These are human rights. And the United States will stand up for them everywhere."

17. It was on State tv. The way it was translated to me was
"if we used the tactics used by police in New York and in London, the Egyptian people would be insulted".

Yesterday was a weird cacophony of Bloomberg, the Egyptian junta and Chancellor Katehi all sounding exactly like each other, saying the same type of rationalizations.
