‘Nobody deserves this more,’ says boss of $50 million lottery-winning cooks
Imagine this: you’ve just won $50 million, have been hounded by reporters and curious neighbours and 24 hours later, you finally manage to sneak out of your apartment.

Where would you go?
Probably the nearest mall, or a car dealership. Or to a realtor.

Not Linda and Don Ingram, winners of Friday’s $50-million Lotto Max jackpot. They walked to Wally’s World, the old-fashioned diner in Oshawa where they have worked for almost 15 years, settled into a booth and, between gigantic hugs from co-workers, ordered pop.

“Where else would we go ... this is where all our friends are,” said Linda, as her husband Don nodded from across the booth.

4. Nice to see the winner is someone who needs it and won't just go out on a crazy spending spree.
I'm sure they will be giving a lot away...especially to their kids. I'd be happy to hear they gave some money to their fellow workers.

My father's Rotary club had a drawing once long ago. The local Lincoln dealer donated a new Lincoln to the winner. Guess who won the lottery?
The Lincoln dealer!

5. Not sure, but a lot less than 50 million.
I guess I would say that after everyone has the basics necessary for happiness such as health care, home, food. etc. -THEN the number would go up. But until then, it would be lower.

My counter question: Why do YOU think some people DESERVE more money than they could spend in 10 lifetimes?

That's my opinion. Sorry if you don't like it.

23. I can think of lots of thing that I believe society should be willing to pay someone
50 million dollars a year for the rest of their lives, if that is what they desired.

Excessive, maybe but it is all relative.

26. I imagine the use of the money to be excessive
I imagine the use of the money to be excessive, or generous, or miserly, etc. rather than possession of the money itself.

19. No, I think running a successful business with many employees is
Lotteries are just another tax on the poor who dream of living an upper class lifestyle. A lot of people spend thousands of dollars each year hoping they will hit it big, and most never win more than a few hundred dollars.

28. The person getting the money
does not run and did not create the lottery. He or she bought a ticket.

A person running a business, even a very successful one, will have made morally ambiguous choices along the way. In most cases of the premium they will gain will come at the cost of keeping wages and benefits low, and if not low a real sense, certainly less that they value of the goods and services the employees create, for therein lies the profit margin.

I have no problem with running a successful business as a means to making a good living, and have done so myself, it can be a good and honorable living. But the notion that it is more honest than the simple act of buying a lottery ticket, shows that you don't know of what you speak.

And while you are thinking about THAT, go visit dictionary.com and look up the word "opinion".

ruin their lives. Glad to see they can use it to deal with the hubby's health expenses and get the home they've always wanted.

11. I would love to win that much money. Not because I could buy lots of houses
and jewelry and fancy cars - I'm not much into "stuff".

I would love to be able to spend the rest of my days figuring out all the worthy liberal causes and suffering people to give it to.
