1. Of course not
Plenty of people have to work on holidays - unless cops, firefighters, doctors, nurses have a new deal I'm not aware of.

4. I know about emergency workers
but if store workers aren't entitled to national holidays, when will bank workers have to show up.

5. Bank workers show up too.
Security, computer operations, maintenance, all have to be covered all the time.

The banksters at the top will be at home, enjoying the turkey, watching the football.

The key word in your post is "workers".

:hi:

2. The power house workers at our plant had to work even when we went out on strike

It was a 365 days a year operation. Some things have to be attended to at all times. That is an example of one of them.

3. If there's a UNION, there's USUALLY a wage incentive
so that those who want or need extra money can trade their valuable time for fair value...or so it used to be.

6. Yes. On holidays, all the patients in the hospital should be sent home so staff can enjoy...
.... OK, you see the satire.

7. Are you talking about those Target folks?
Pretty confident Mr. Hardwick will have all the time he needs to be with whoever he wants as he will not be employed for much longer.

Target employee petitions store to close on Thanksgiving

Almost 100,000 people have signed a petition started by a Target employee in Nebraska that calls on the retail chain to cancel plans to open its store on Thanksgiving night.

Anthony Hardwick, 29, says he started the petition to act as a voice for Target employees who can't speak up, the Omaha World-Herald reports.

"I felt that it was my duty to speak up for them and voice that employees aren't happy," says Hardwick, who has worked for Target for three years. "Even salaried management isn't happy. It's cutting into their Thanksgiving, and we want to spend time with our families. That's what's important."

He says he wants the Minneapolis-based retailer to cancel plans to open at 11 p.m. on Thanksiving and go back to its original Black Friday opening at 5 a.m.

By early Wednesday, the appeal had received almost 100,000 signatures. Change.org says 26 similar petitions have also been started through its Web service, The Baltimore Sun reports.

8. How about members of Congress working on the days when even public employees
have to work?

I mean, I heard that something that indicated this Repug-controlled House just broke the record for LEAST number of days working (in modern history), surpassing the 2006 Repugs ...

11. In theory yes, in practice no...
As other have stated, what happens if Fire, Police, Medical, Electrical, Gas, Water, Street, Media all didn't show up for work?

"You have dialed 911. I'm sorry but due to the Federal Holiday, no one is here to take your call or assist you. You are on your own until 8:00am tomorrow. Thank you, and have a Happy Holiday!"

12. No
Life goes on, even during holidays. I shudder to think what the world would be like if hospitals and fire departments were closed on the holidays.
