Live where it's frozen: Car Interior Preheater
Edited on Mon Nov-21-11 05:59 AM by Are_grits_groceries
Car Interior Preheater

With winter’s chill headed our way in select countries, it goes without saying that keeping warm is one of the priorities this season – and doing so in style is an even better idea. Well, for those of us who do not have the luxury of a heated garage, parking our cars outside of our houses without any form of heating could prove to be torture to get into, especially during those super cold mornings.

Enter the $119.95 Car Interior Preheater – where this programmable heater is capable of helping defrost your automobile’s windshield, while making sure the interior warms up before you even open the door and drop your bottom on the seat.

This is a battery-powered device which can be recharged, and will not draw power from the car as it can also be set to automatically turn on up to 20 minutes before you enter the car. A couple of heat vents will tilt 180º in order to direct the hot air onto the windshield, or to send it throughout the car. Resting on the dashboard, there is virtually no need for any installation. It juices up in just four hours – making it a winter essential.
Cost-$119

Not sure if it's worth it or how well it works, but FYI.
Lots more gadgets for those who are addicts.

1. A decent blow dryer is around 1500 watts..
If you ran it for six minutes (1/10 hour) that's 150 watt hours.

150 watt hours/24 volts is 6 amp hours in six minutes, that's 60 amps.

If that thing is using lead acid batteries they aren't going to last long under even half those power levels, lead acid cells are the cheapest but also the worst chemistry available.

Batteries for the most part don't like cold either so that will reduce their effectiveness.

They couldn't put enough decent batteries in that thing to do much good and sell it for that price and the batteries are not going to last very long, that's really severe duty.

9. I was thinking the same thing.
Maybe enough power to defrost the windshield. Maybe.

2. I could use that just as heat for my car
The heater is just one more thing that is gone on my car. One of these days it is just going to quit for good.

8. Harbor Freight has an electric cabin heater, plugs into the cig lighter. $9.
I'm not sure how well it works, but for $9 I'd certainly give it a shot if my car's heat was out.

3. Anything that keeps the cold from my bones is worth it. I like the heated seats
that are now being put in even economy model cars. And there are window defrosters in the cars as well,
So I'm not sure if this is all that necessary on newer model cars. But maybe in the older models...if it works.

4. And if you're drive through the Midwest in the winter months,

as I did when I moved from Seattle to Jersey City, don't forget to top off your tank and add Heet to keep the moisture in your gas tank from freezing overnight.

And whatever you do... do not forget to replace your regular wiper fluid with antifreeze windshield wiper fluid.

It was a nightmare when I got to Minneapolis, where they plastered the road with thick salt, and my wiper fluid was frozen. Not fun.

5. i live where it is cold and i drive beaters with heaters. I remember
1 particular car where the heater core died
i ended up having the coolant just rerouted around the core.

my god that winter was awful
not only would i have to scrape the outside of the windows but the insides too.

i remember driving home in an ice storm---so very very unsafe.....

heck if i had this thing maybe i would still have that car

well no.
Actually it died as all my beaters do.....
of too expensive to fix massive mechanical failure.

this one in particular i remember my mechanic telling me it was terminal right around memorial day
It lasted almost to labor day--still kind of proud of that.

6. Remote car starter works better for about the same price.
Start from inside your house 5-10 minutes before you go out. It was great when my kids were babies and it was -20 outside. One problem is they only work on cars with an automatic transmission. Now when its that cold I run out to start the car for my wife a few minutes before she leaves.

7. Which one?
Not that I need it in SC.
The way global warming is zooming, what isn't underwater may be rainforests.
