Alan Simpson - 60 Minutes, also a great French lady...
Edited on Mon Nov-21-11 09:58 AM by fadedrose
I think one of the best things I've seen on 60 Minutes was the Alan Simpson interview last night. He pounded Grover Norquist and demanded to know where this powerful man was getting his funding. He was undaunted and unafraid of Norquist. They showed lists of all the congressmen that had signed the no tax list at least 18 years ago and were still bound by it.... If there's a bit somewhere on U-tube or on CBS's site, try to see it. Some of you geniuses know how to find that stuff ;)

Another great interview was with a lady whose name I didn't catch - she should be the most famous woman in the world and I never heard of her till last night. She's french, first woman to run the IMF and is one of the few humans I've seen in public life - 6' tall, articulate, attractive, and said many things, one of which was that companies receiving public funds cannot just go with their policies as if they owed profits to no one without regard to the taxpayers...she was great. Some talk about her running for president of France...looked it up, her name is Christine Lagarde. Makes Joan of Arc look like a pansy...

3. She was too cautious to lay the blame where it belongs. Our problems
aren't caused by politicians. Our problems are caused by Republicans!

2. We all need to find out who is the man behind the curtain;
Grover Norquist is a lap dog for the 1%. Someone is paying him to be the front man.

4. Christine Lagarde is fabulous
She's a very determined woman. Of course she came to the position suddenly (Strauss-Kahn rape allegations in NYC). But she's certainly qualified. She was in two documentaries re the Financial Crises of 2008 as well.

5. I wasn't impressed with her, Christine Lagarde. She has an elitist background very similar
to Obama.

And she said that she goes in to negotiations with people feeling like they lose perspective and it's all about ego for many, when they should remember that life is about families and children and such.

And I wanted to say to her, in response, 'yes, Ms. Lagarde, we know that. Meanwhile, back in France, your fellow French citizens have universal health care and some good guarantees for a livable standard of living, so yes, life can be much richer than here in the US where health care is tied to having a job and the tax burden is constantly being shifted onto the middle class and away from the upper class.'

She just didn't seem to get it.

10. I went to an elitist school and we had an "Obama" in the
group. She was the only Black person enrolled, her single mom was a nurse and worked like hell to afford the tuition. She was well-liked, accepted to a point, but never really one of the truly 'entitled'. I'm sure she was painfully aware of it, and I'm thinking Obama was, too.

Just my take on it -- I'd never have considered any part of his background elitist. :shrug:
