The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is totally free and for the children
Just go ahead and ignore all the commercialization of the event to include an advertisement for Whoopi Goldberg's produced Sister Act. It's called "Macy's" Thanksgiving Day Parade for a reason. It's the big kickoff for Christmas shopping.

2. Here's what most people don't realize about the parade...
...The Broadway and musical acts aren't really part of the parade. The problem is that it takes a good hour to 90 minutes for the first floats and balloons to get from 79th Street down to 34th Street, so the network has to have something happening at Herald Square to fill the time.

5. Not sure what's objectionable about that
Why not have a few Broadway show performance excerpts at that time?

Although it got good reviews.
