FBI declined to pursue NYC bomb plot
(AP)

NEW YORK - U.S. authorities declined to pursue a case against an "al Qaeda sympathizer" accused of plotting to bomb police stations and post offices in the New York area because they believed he was mentally unstable and incapable of pulling it off, two law enforcement officials said Monday.

New York Police Department investigators sought to get the FBI involved at least twice as their undercover investigation of Jose Pimentel unfolded, the officials said. Both times, the FBI concluded that he wasn't a serious threat, they said.

The FBI concluded that Pimentel "didn't have the predisposition or the ability to do anything on his own," one of the officials said.

The officials were not authorized to speak about the case and spoke on condition of anonymity. The FBI's New York office declined to comment Monday.

Just as DUers thought, the whole emergency Press Conference and bomb plot was a pathetic diversion attempt. It failed miserably as it should.

2. They always dredge this type of thing up
When they want you to look somewhere else. Glad to see it didn't work. I wonder what their new bogeyman will be? Everyone is just about completely burned out on "terrorists" at this point.

4. How many bomb "plots" do you think were broken up prior to 9-11
and we never had to hear about those. I bet this sort of thing happens more often than we care to believe or want to believe but prior to 9-11, it wasn't deemed good political fodder to trot out these successful actions to stop threats such as these (real or not).

It's also gotten to the point where they've used this tactic so much that when a serious one comes along, which I'm sure it will, no one will care because it'll just seem like another tactic of some sort.
