Brewer asks delay of redistricting reinstatement

Colleen Mathis/Courtesy of azredistricting.orgPHOENIX (AP) - Gov. Jan Brewer is asking the Arizona Supreme Court to delay its reinstatement of the chair of the state redistricting commission until the court explains why it overturned Brewer's removal of Colleen Mathis.

Brewer is considering whether to try again to remove Mathis. The governor's lawyers filed motions Monday asking the Supreme Court to quickly say what was wrong with her first attempt.

The Supreme Court's brief order Thursday said Brewer's letter removing Mathis did not satisfy an Arizona Constitution provision allowing governors to remove a commission member for gross misconduct or substantial neglect of duty.
