I'm not sure what kind of birds but when they are heading south before the bad weather sets in you'll see miles and miles of them doing this very thing that someone acts as this is unusual. Its not unusual at all.

in Michigan, Ohio, or California (north & south). So yes, for many people it is unusual.
Naked men walking around the neighborhood is normal for me but I bet it would be unusual for you.
