Union Donations to Republicans Double What They Were in 2010 Elections
http://wepartypatriots.com/wp/2011/11/22/union-donations-to-republicans-are-double-what-they-were-in-2010/

he foregone conclusion of Unions siding with Democrats is being challenged by a POLITICO story showing that during this election cycle, $2 million (or 13 percent of all donations) was given to Republicans. While this is still a small slice of the donation pie, 13 percent is a significant increase from the six percent donated in 2010.

Vincent Panvini, director of governmental affairs at the Sheet Metal Workers International Association (SMWIA), told Politico:

“I’m not an ATM machine for anybody. My members donate their money voluntarily … and we support the people who support us to create jobs, protect their pensions, make sure they work on safe and healthy job sites, and that’s where you go from,” Panvini added. “And that’s why we’re seeing more money going to these moderate Republicans who are putting their necks out against their own party and helping us, and that’s the bottom line.”

Much of the money donated has gone to Steve LaTourette of Ohio, Frank LoBiondo of New Jersey and Jo Ann Emerson of Missouri, POLITICO writes. Voting records on big union issues such as the Davis-Bacon Act, Prevailing Wages and Project Labor Agreements inform the decision-making process for many construction unions:

1. So how did these 3 end up voting on job bills?
Oh yeah, Republicans haven't brought any votes up for vote. I'm sure they would have bucked the Party line, though, if they had gotten a chance to do so. /sarcasm

2. I'm not understanding this
Edited on Tue Nov-22-11 11:38 AM by Proud Liberal Dem
Are donations to Republicans in general increasing or are a few more donations going to small select group of labor-friendly Republicans (does that count as an oxymoron)?

I'm guessing, however, that this is just another hack hit piece by Politico to make Democrats think that Unions are suddenly switching sides and/or defecting from the Dems. :puke:

8. The whole story is stupid
Republicans get a higher percentage, but the union PAC's are spending slightly less money so far this year, but 2011 was one of the slowest election years as far as contests go, it was only down slightly compared to 2007, which is th only year it should be compared to.

Also they seem to be comparing 13% in first three quarters of 2011, to 6% of all 4 quarters of 2010, and 8% of all four quarters of 2008. So it's not a very accurate comparison. But is 13% much of an increase over 8%, especially since there weren't alot of contests to put money into, and 8% of 2008 when there was a huge union PAC expenditures.

I found some info which says that in 2007, Republicans got 10% of union PAC money, 2007 is a comparable dead election year, I don't really see much change at all.

4. The Repubs will disappoint eventually.
But the Dems have to step up and stay there or they will lose more than just this few union workers.
