2. IT is all those unfunded entitlements that cause the arabs to hate us for our freedoms. No that is
not it, wait. We have to balance our budget because the government is like a business.
No that is not it, wait.
We have to cut entitlements to give the GODS of CAPITAL the confidence to invest and create jobs.
Except they do not create jobs when there is no demand.
So there is no case to be made.

It's that even though it isn't stated so succinctly. Personally I will not stand behind a lie for political reasons based on an ideology made popular by the other side. Count me out.

4. Thank you for cutting to the heart of this.

What do you think Democrats across the country would have said if Obama had stood up during the 2008 campaign and announced, "Under my Presidency, we will herald a new age of austerity. We will slash over a TRILLION dollars from the budget, while simultaneously keeping in place massive tax breaks for the filthy rich"?

This was a brilliant scam. They used Social Security and Medicare as hostages to pull off a Republican-style theft that no Democrat would have voted for in a million years. And now they reap praise for it.

These cuts are an outrage and go against all economic sense. This President was warned by hundreds of economists not to slash the budget during the worst economy since the Great Depression. Doing so will not only hurt millions of individuals in cruel, unnecessary ways, but it will starve the economy during a time when the economy desperately needs stimulus.

The Super Committee was a scam to begin with. Talk about brilliant politics by the corporate oligarchy. Five years ago, the very plan that is now being cheered as a victory would have been excoriated by everyone here as a Republican wet dream.

No, vowing to uphold the cuts is not a "win" for Democrats. This whole thing is an outrage and should be left behind entirely.

die anyway.

11. They were scheduled to die in 2010, too.
Edited on Tue Nov-22-11 02:06 PM by woo me with science
And why on earth do you think there was such a fight to keep them in the deal, if our politicians really believe they are on the verge of expiring?

Wake up. We are talking about a trillion dollars in cuts to further starve an economy that is already causing a world of pain.

The Super Committee was an outrage. This plan is an outrage and does not faintly resemble anything that Democrats have ever stood for or should ever stand for.

17. And while Obama is claiming that Social Security is going broke,
he is asking for yet another year of a vacation on the payroll tax.

He is lying about Social Security being broke. In fact, his request for another vacation on the payroll tax is an attempt to try to break or defund Social Security.

And we seniors are supposed to support and vote for this guy.

He needs to play it straight with us.

Whose side is he on?

Either we maintain the payroll tax where it is or Obama admits he is anti-seniors and anti-Social Security. Can't have it both ways. Can't claim to support Social Security and Medicare while requesting to reduce the taxes that support those programs.

8. First, let us define "we."
Edited on Tue Nov-22-11 01:03 PM by Jackpine Radical
If by "we" you mean the vast, unwashed public, then perhaps spending cuts would be unwise.

If, however, by "we" you mean the People who Matter, AKA the Beautiful People, then domestic cuts will free up the cash we need in order to advance both our lifestyle and our grip on the reins of power by which we maintain that lifestyle. And there are many side benefits. For example, Medicare is notorious for preserving useless elderly and disabled eaters far beyond their expiration dates. Things could be ever so much nicer if there weren't all these poky
old geezers shuffling about and consuming resources that are rightfully ours.

12. Because there's still insufficient misery in the country ...
as we head into the holiday season.

And besides, there are some small glimmers of possible recovery -- although most likely false hopes, they still need to be decisively stomped out.

And the rich still have ever-more-expensive yachts, planes, orgies, and control over countries to buy.

admitting to lost wars and cutting the ability of the rich to pay off politicians.

20. The only item I feel that needs cutting
regarding domestic spending is the pay package deal received by members of Congress.

That is the best example of wasteful spending I know of. I am sure there are programs out there that benefit those who don't need it. I'd like to find out what they are and cut them so we could put those funds into education and the health & welfare of the country.

I guess I am actually not for cuts but for different arrangement of how we spend the money. Cut the waste and better fund the necessities.

22. Bank profits are declining.
They need to resume their monopoly on our money. Too much money available in the economy leads to less borrowing and less leveraging by the banks. When the government cuts spending, the banks can create more debt slaves.

24. Slashing Spending,
...and de-funding Social Security (Payroll Tax "Holiday")
is Standard Conservative Republican Dogma.

Payroll Tax Holiday Directly Connects Social Security to The Deficit

I can NOT believe a "Democratic" President is preaching this,
especially during a recession and Jobs Crisis.
This has NEVER worked for the benefit of the 99%.
It ONLY enriches the 1% who can live like ROYALTY during hard times.

I also can NOT believe that "Democrats" are cheering THIS,
and calling it a big WIN.

How FAR we have fallen.

Recced back UP to +1

"There are forces within the Democratic Party who want us to sound like kinder, gentler Republicans.
I want a party that will STAND UP for Working Americans."
