Don't play into the hands of the megacorps who are killing our independent merchants with their ubiquitous big boxes. Don't buy into the advertizing hype that tells you you must consume, consume, consume ceaselessly to be happy.

4. I refuse to spend Thanksgiving standing in line with obnoxious people
There is no deal worth the pain required to achieve it.

5. Must be desperate times ...
... it seems like the "Black Friday" label is being used much more intensely in advertising this year.

Indeed, the term 'Thanksgiving Day' is often not mentioned or is incidental to the 'real' big day: Black Friday.

I have participated in 'Buy Nothing Day' for several years now. Except maybe for a fresh loaf of bread for our turkey sandwiches, we stay away from the stores on 'Black Friday'.

What really gets my goat this year are the stores that are open all day Thursday, Thanksgiving Day.

Just how craven and shallow can these corporations and their consumer sheep really get?

Pretty craven.

8. A few years ago we needed a clothes washer
So we did...it was me, the staff on black Friday. (2008)

The thing failed and sears outlet sells them with deep discounts. So will get it at my leisure.

6. Not me!
I going out and spending money! Lots and lots of money. I'm giving money to all my friends! I'm gonna throw some in the trash just to see how it feels. I might buy an airplane...or a beach house.

All I need is the money. Can you help a brother out?

10. It's way beyond cliche. I won't buy even a Slim Jim on it, or the next day.
I need to inject an anti-buy iconoclastic fervor, much like being conspicuously NOT watching TV during monday nights, or being publicly drunk on sundays before 12 noon. Why so many lemmings actively seek out the opportunity to act like predictable lemmings...even as they know they are lemmings.

There, I feel better now.
