An exculpanation?-I am so misunderstood.
Edited on Thu Jan-20-11 03:51 PM by kpete
Palin: I am so misunderstood.
Hannity: I am so misunderstood.
Palin: I am so misunderstood.

...........................

But there was one person who seemed to understand Sarah Palin quite well. Gabby Giffords, herself, during the health care debate. Discussing threats against Democratic Members of Congress. After the door to her office was shattered. This is what Gabby said:

“You know, for example, we’re on Sarah Palin’s targeted list, but the thing is the way that she has depicted it is the crosshairs of a gun-sight over our district. When people do that, they’ve got to realize that there are consequences to that action.”

And here is Palin’s blithe response, on Hannity’s show:

“That map wasn’t an original graphic.”

Palin: I am so misunderstood.
Hannity: I am so misunderstood.
Palin: I am so misunderstood.

2. Framing is everything, isn't it?
Did Sister Sarah actually buy Loughner's gun? Well then, she's not in any way responsible! And even if she did buy Loughner his gun, did she drive him to the Safeway parking lot that day? And even if she did buy Loughner his gun and drive him to the Safeway parking lot that day, she didn't specifically point out Rep. Giffords. And even if she did . . .

And so on and so on. As long as you can make the case specific enough, Palin is totally absolved of everything. In the nitwit mind, she'd have to actually mine the ore and smelt the iron and steel that made that gun Loughner used before they'd begrudgingly admit that maybe, just maybe, there was some culpability there. On the other hand, they have no difficulty whatsoever drawing up elaborate schemes that prove Saul Alinsky is alive and living in the White House, advising everyone there.

3. I just read Time magazine
and they say that Loughner's act had nothing to do with anything Palin had to say or do.
He's schizophrenic and it was the voices in his head that made him do it.
There is plenty of other stuff to hate Palin about.

9. I don't think
they could do that at this point.

One quote from the article: "psychological research suggests that political rhetoric
could never be the single cause that leads a person with complex mental problems to
commit violence"

Loughner did have a run-in with Ms Giffords at a constituents meeting back in 2007 where he said nonsensically
"What is government if words have no meaning?". To which she replied "next question". Apparently this set her up
as his target in his mind.

5. Maybe they should be educated about Stochastic Terrorism
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/1/10/934890/-Stochastic-Terrorism:-Triggering-the-shooters

Stochastic terrorism is the use of mass communications to stir up random lone wolves to carry out violent or terrorist acts that are statistically predictable but individually unpredictable.

This is what occurs when Bin Laden releases a video that stirs random extremists halfway around the globe to commit a bombing or shooting.

This is also the term for what Beck, O'Reilly, Hannity, and others do. And this is what led directly and predictably to a number of cases of ideologically-motivated murder similar to the Tucson shootings
