Credit card solicitation question |
I'm loving sending back heavy envelopes to the credit card companies like Capital One in their postage paid envelopes as a statement to them to stop their consumer exploitation. I just noticed the Locator Identification Code and warning on the envelopes now. I assume that is a con to stop people from doing this, but does anyone have the inside scoop? Thanks!

1. Make sure it is RIGID i.e. cardboard etc. |
It's media mail at that point which is an entirely different postal rate.
As for the location id, I have no clue...

4. So media mail costs more? |
I always thought it was less - but thanks for the tip!

6. According to the youtube video I watched on this... |
While it may be cheaper for a company which buys media rate in bulk, it is much more costly in this instance.

16. run it by a tape player's read head and look for a signal on an oscilloscope |
That would be the simplest way.

No, but there is a warning on there about defrauding financial institutions, blah blah blan. Probably more about false applications but just thought I'd check...

10. i think that has to using false info to get a credit card. |
unless it says you will be prosecuted for using this postage paid envelope for something other than they expected then you are good.

11. They sent you the postage paid envelope so you could communicate with them. |
So communicate. I do not advocate sending anything dangerous thru the mail, but beyond that everything seems to be fair as long as it communicates your point.

14. I send them back with |
"I wouldn't get a card from you if it came with a life time supply of Champagne".
But they keep sending it to me - not getting that I might ACTUALLY sign up if they offered me a lifetime supply of champagne. Or wine. Or skinny girl margarita.

17. Fortunately, I do not receive those solicitations any longer. |
I was besieged with them a few years ago, and I tore it all up all the paperwork and mailed it back to them. Finally, the mailings stopped.

18. I stopped receiving those |
things several years ago, and actually feel surprised to learn that others are still getting them. I wonder if I aged out (I'm 63) or if they managed to notice that I got divorced and my income dropped a lot. Whatever the reason, I certainly don't miss those things.

21. They stopped for me around 2007 or so.... |
But, they started back up this year. Despite being out of permanent work for the past few years, I have managed to maintain an excellent credit rating. That's all they care about.

22. Hmmm. I have an adequate credit |
rating, not fabulous. Maybe occasionally being a little late paying a utility bill has its advantages.
