These wonderful people need contributions, foster homes and transport. Help save these pets from a kill shelter.

Without us to help, these poor Labs are doomed through no fault of their own. It is a humane thing to do and will make you feel better to help.

I'm sure even a few dollars will help. If you are on their route to get these animals to new homes, what a great reason to drive a little to help fill a link in their chain of transport.

I just donated and signed for a stretch for transport within a two hour drive from my area. It is the least I can do.
Thanks, PR

9. FUCK THAT. If you want to save labs...

Leave them at the shelter.

It's true, there's a lot of animals that need to be adopted.
However their $275 adoption fee is counter to supply and demand.

Their adoption contract is very restrictive. It's like a breeder's contract.

I know I'm not going to make any friends with this post but I do love animals so I will say this...
A lot of these rescue groups snatch up the most adoptable pets from shelters that charge under $100 adoption fee, then they mark them up and market them.

I encourage anyone to foster for their local shelter and to donate money and maybe even volunteer at your local shelter. Local shelters are becoming known for having the most troubled animals because of these "rescue" groups taking out the animals that will be the most in demand when they should really be doing the opposite, when you think about it.

The cutest dogs will get adopted from the pound, in a hurry. The pitbull mixes and the kind of ugly dogs or ones with serious health problems are the ones that should truly be rescued. They are the ones that need more time to get rehabilitated.

Not to say there aren't any good rescue groups worthy of donations,THERE ARE. But I'm not convinced this one is.

10. To each his own. I think you could have expressed yourself in a
more civil manner. I respect your thoughts, you obviously believe what you say.. What I find difficult to understand is your hostility.

Any animal saved is one more than might not have made it if it was not for these people and others like them.

Sorry about that. I was in a lot of pain yesterday and was feeling crabby.
I know that's a poor excuse.
Here's some food for thought about your comment though...

If you go to that site and click on the link to see the available dogs, the words used to describe the dogs they "rescued", that are currently being fostered (in a multitude of different states outside of NC, I might add) are:
Gorgeous, Beautiful, Adorable, and Fabulous... To name a few.

These dogs are practically puppies... Most look like they are 8 mos to 2 years in age.

Puppies are the FIRST dogs to be adopted at shelters.
As are adorable, beautiful, gorgeous etc etc etc.

The dogs that really need rescuing are the old, not so cute, not so adorable dogs, that may have temperment issues or health problems.

These people are taking the creme of the crop.
And they're being fostered for cripes sake. Dogs like these would be adopted in under a week or two from our pound.

Often I come across "rescue" groups snatching up these dogs. Especially the retriever/poodle crosses or little white dogs, leaving the dogs least likely to be adopted at the pound. That doesn't make any sense to me if the main objective is to save the dogs.
As a business person however, it makes perfect sense.

I think what the pounds ought to do is let these groups take the dogs that have been there the longest that need rehabilitation.
If they did that, I would have a much different opinion of them. One group that I know of that ONLY takes the dogs from shelters that have serious problems or are at really at the end of the road in a kill shelter, is called Best Friends, their Dogtown rehabilitation center is in Utah.
Their website is www.bestfriends.org

Look at the over 300 dogs they have for adoption and compare to what you see on that save the labs site.
For starters, you'll notice they are much older. 10+ years in many cases. They are also very much Heinz 57 dogs. Lots of spots, patches and scraps in there. Lots of pit/mix in there it looks like too. These dogs were dogs that were literally at the end of the road. Dogs with serious problems. If they are not adopted, they will live out their days at Dogtown. IMO, this organization has many of the signatures I look for when looking for animal charities to donate to.

11. I agree with you

There are many ways to help unwanted pets and the best way is to keep your money local and do your volunteering locally.

Local - where you are able to verify the need and keep track of the conditions.
