'World fears US as a war-hungry drunk' - ex-Senator
The US is like a drunkard who charges to war with anyone who might pose a threat, ex-Senator and former US presidential candidate Mike Gravel says.

“I like the US. But at the same time I think my country is an imperial country that is going downhill, and our leadership does not even acknowledge the problem,” confesses Gravel.

8. not so much, actually
if there's a threat to US dominance it's probably China. I don't see war with China on the horizon anytime soon. War with Iran or Iraq or Afghanistan or any of a dozen other minor regional powers which happen to control access to oil or natural gas pipeline routes is something else again; it's the Great Game redux. For those who don't know about this bit of history: the "Great Game" of the 19th century was between the British Empire and Russia in Asia; Russia threatened British interests by fomenting unrest and uprisings among local warlords in states like Afghanistan (which posed a threat to British India). The reasons then were the same as now: access to trade routes and valuable resources with wars often fought by proxy. Viewed this way it's nothing more than the behaviour of an imperial hegemon acting in what seem to be its own best interests, and to be expected.

21. US neocons/neolibs want control of Iran's oil...

no one wants to admit it, but I think it's as simple as that.

9. Gravel's one of the few to stand up to Them.
To make sure the First Amendment stood, he read the Pentagon Papers into the Congressional Record during the time Daniel Ellsberg was considered the most dangerous man man in America.

The guy knows the Truth. And he speaks it.

26. Yes, he does. I have met Mr. Gravel and he is very affable
and a seeming straight-shooter. He is/was too "fringe" (normal/ honest) to be taken seriously as a Presidential candidate. I don't remember exactly what his platform was, but I didn't think he was a great choice for POTUS.

We are here for the vicarious entertainment of the rest of the world.

In the same way that multi-car crashes are entertaining to the rubber-neckers slowing down to view the carnage.
