GROOM, Texas – A Kansas man has been charged with shooting and killing another man in what authorities are calling a road-rage death.
William G. Franklin, 81, of Wellsville, Kansas, has been charged with murder in the shooting death of 65-year-old St. Louis resident William Thompson Nardin at a Groom, Texas, convenience store on Monday afternoon. He posted a $75,000 cash-only bond which will require him to return to Texas if so ordered, authorities said.
Groom is located about 40 miles east of Amarillo.
According to police, Nardin and his wife were traveling west on I-40 when Franklin’s pickup truck sideswiped their rental car. Nardin called 9-1-1 about the incident, and then continued west until 30 minutes later when they pulled into a convenience store, where they spotted Franklin’s pickup truck.
Police say Nardin approached Franklin’s truck, and an argument ensued before Franklin fired several shots through his truck door and window at Nardin, killing him.
