The Republicans want you to believe that Government is the problem and that, if we would only let it, "market forces" would solve all our problems. Yeah, RIGHT!!! It was unregulated markets that gave us the Great Depression and this latest Great Recession. It was the greed of these same unregulated "market forces" that necessitated the creation of the FCC, the EPA, the FTC, the FDA and one could go on and on listing all the government agencies that HAD TO BE CREATED (because the people demanded it) to either stop these "market forces" or clean up after the messes made by these "market forces".
Yes, the Government (which is, after all, "We the People...") can sometimes be obstructionist (i.e., witness the Republican controlled Congress), but it must at least be part of the solution.
After all, the markets didn't give us the New Deal...or Social Security, or Medicare or Medicaid. The markets didn't win World War II. The markets didn't give us the Salk vaccine for polio. The markets didn't give us public education...or the GI Bill. The markets didn't give us the Equal Rights Amendment and the markets didn't put a man on the moon.
Nuff said???

1. "Government is the problem" |
|
That's just rhetoric used to sell the public on a package of goods that benefits the 1%. The same parties that use this tactic are conspicuously silent about regulations that benefit their particular businesses.
And by the way, what are property rights, contract law, patent protection, and the limited liability corporation if not "government regulations?"
