An aide to Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa office has confirmed that Occupy L.A. protesters will have to leave their City Hall encampment by next week, saying the city wants to begin repairing the 1.7-acre park.

“Today, we informed members of Occupy L.A. that City Hall park shall be closed for rehabilitation at some point next week,” said Deputy Chief of Staff Matt Szabo.

He would not say exactly when the park would be closed or how much warning protesters would be given.

Link to statement from the #Occupy LA General Assembly on the city's now-rescinded offer for them to use a building:

5. It is a terrible idea. He doesn't realize that there is a planned march on West Coast ports on
December 12th. He's going to fuel it beyond belief.

18. On May 1, 2006, I was working on Wilshire Blvd. in Korea Town. That
May Day was the day when Latinos and other immigrants marched en masse down Wilshire Boulevard to oppose the attacks on immigrants that were then starting to gain steam. An estimated 500,000 marched down Wilshire Blvd. that day from downtown proceeding westward.

I stood on the raised steps of the building I worked at and watched as wave after wave of ordinary, working class immigrants marched down the street in quiet, orderly procession.

"This is what the proletariat looks like," I remember thinking to myself. "If they so decided, they could basically shut the city down right now." (Los Angeles is now and has been for the past few years more than 50% Latino.)

And what was that chickenshit Villaraigosa doing during this same time frame? Hiding 27 stories below ground in an LAPD 'emergency command center' where he monitored the situation. In other words, Villaraigosa who has Latino roots couldn't even face his own people.

21. That was a great day all over the country.
There was no leader. It was the most amazing demonstration in our history and there was plenty to demonstrate about.

Thanks for the info on the mayor hiding out. I wasn't aware of that.
