Angry landlord crushed mobile home while tenants fled, deputies report
Landlord John Miller will miss Thanksgiving at home this year after what may be Central Florida's first case of eviction rage ending in attempted-murder charges.

Miller remains held without bail in the Orange County Jail after crushing a mobile home with a large front-end loader while a terrified child cowered inside as a woman tried to save her, according to Sheriff's Office records.

"Good, then I got what I wanted," Miller, 51, said after deputies told him the roof had collapsed and the small trailer was uninhabitable.

The attack began Tuesday afternoon on West Ponkan Road near Apopka when 911 calls reported the Mount Dora landlord had been chasing his tenants with a front-end loader after destroying their home rather than waiting for them to leave Dec. 1. He previously has been charged with refusing to vaccinate a dog or cat against rabies as well as firing a gun in public, records show.

Saw this one while browsing on freerepublic. (I like going there to see what the enemy is saying)
Most of the people are coming down on the side of the landlord. The mother of the kids is being painted as a deadbeat and the guy as trying to protect himself from losing his land. But in reality, the woman pays rent and is not behind. The landlord was angry that she used a table at a yard sale. He was evicting her for that, with her move out date December 1st. But on Tuesday, guess he got impatient because he drove a bulldozer through the house with one young child still inside. The child was ok, but he got arrested.
Find the story on FR and look for my posts. They are going to eventually find out that I'm not "One of them" as it were. But that's ok. This is a nicer site to post at anyway.

3. Alcohol... lots of it
Just kidding. I just take everything they say with a grain of salt. And I just pretend I'm a spy or someone undercover. Give the whole thing a bit of fun.
I've posted a few lines in praise of the protestors in Egypt, and a condemnation of Mr. Pepperspray at UC Berkley. Just have to remember to say the occasional anti-Obama thing.

5. That other place
has emotions too. Sadness over Obama being elected. Happiness when an abortion doctor is arrested or killed. Anger at people that complain about executive pay. Joy (sadistic as it may be) when Occupy _____ protestors are pepper sprayed. I really wish I was using hyperbole. I'm on that site about 90% as much as I am on here. I see that stuff all the time.
But they also complain about fees for the banks and the bailouts. It's ok to complain about them, but it's not ok to organize protests? One of them was calling for Durbin to be arrested for "Trying to cause a run on the banks", when Durbin was encouraging people to participate in National Bank Transfer Day. They would have more success if they were to hide the frothing at the mouth. If they were to tone down their rhetoric and present their ideas in a rational way, more people would probably go for them.

At this site I get more balanced views on everything and I can make up my own mind on things. Some things I agree with, and others I don't. But I never feel like I'm going to be tombstoned for things I say.
There? I'm sure someone has emailed Jim Robinson about my Egypt stance. I basically said that the people want the elections and the military needs to stand out of the way. They might elect a government that isn't friendly to the US, but that's ok. They have a right to do just that.

They're pissed off too !

It's just that they have been manipulated by the right wing media pundits so much the hatred is channeled at us instead of

where it needs to be. It's misdirected to serve a purpose. We really shouldn't be fighting among ourselves and the top 1%

don't want them to 'catch on' ..or it could get :nuke: unpleasant.

I think some of them over there would sell their mother for thirty pieces of silver. Hell, probably less. Had this maniac killed the child they would probably be cheering, since she is a child and not a zygote.

Noted in the article, all the man cared about was HIS property. Not a bit of response to nearly killing two people. Attempted murder, while in a blind rage. Once upon a time I would ask after reading this "What kind of a world is it we are living in?" Nowadays, this kind of thing is par for the course. Sad.

ON EDIT: No, I don't go to freerepublic, never been there. I'm going by what I have seen posted on DU that comes from freerepublic.

7. You should check it out
for yourself. There are some ok people there. There are some idiots and others that just like to mix it up. Besides... I'm there. And I'm fun as hell. Often times, I'll find a story at one site and read the comments, and do a search for that story on the other site and find out what the other site has to say. Usually it's very different. Sometimes it's very close.
I go on the site a lot at my tech support job because I have nothing to do while waiting for a customer to do something on their computer. It's fun to mix it up, and keeps your brain working.

11. Assault with a deadly weapon. Destruction of property. Attempted murder.
And being a general douchebag.

Take a few drug users out of prison to clear some room for this asshat. He needs to be off the street.

14. I'd say the ratio should be
100 to 1. Take 100 non-violent drug users out of prison for 1 of this kind of offender.

Didn't go over too well, aye? I don't get how anyone could justify almost killing someone over that.

16. I think the problem
is that they instinctively take the side of the property owner and just read the excerpt. It doesn't look GREAT for Mr. Miller, but there are some tiny, tiny doubts. I actually clicked on the link and read the full story, which remove all doubts and show him to be a thoroughly disgusting and/or mentally unbalanced person. Problem is that they have taken a stand without all the facts and have to back that up once that up once they get more facts. Unless someone breaks into your house with a gun to steal from you, there is NO excuse to use that level of violence. Not only did this guy act detestable, he seriously screwed up his own life. He's put himself in jail, and now that woman will probably end up owning every inch of the land that he was trying to protect. There is not a court or a jury in the country that would side with him. I wish her luck.

19. At the risk of
invoking Godwin's law, let me give you a quick scene, to illustrate what I mean.. *ahem*

me: "Say. I heard about this guy that you might like. He's a vegetarian. He doesn't smoke and rarely drinks."
Uninformed Person: "Really? Wow. He does sound like a gentleman and a scholar."
Me: "That guy was actually named Adolf Hitler."
U.P.: "Well... he had some good ideas. And he made the trains run on time."

And... SCENE!

15. They instinctively come down on the side of the bully, every time.
Edited on Thu Nov-24-11 03:37 PM by Marr
It's an authoritarian personality trait. I used to turn on right wing radio whenever a story alleging police abuse made the news. I figured that, until details were known, assigning blame to either side would be equally unwarranted, so moments like this might offer a little insight into their mindset. At first I expected they'd tend to come down in favor of the cops, with a largish contingent standing up instead for their individual rights.

Was I ever wrong. In five years of doing this (I did it throughout my college commuting years, and there were roughly 15 cases of alleged police abuse that made the news during that time), I never heard a single caller side with the alleged victim.

20. Found another source
http://www.wesh.com/news/29846458/detail.html#ixzz1eqBeyTiV

The walls and the roof of the trailer collaspsed with the child inside. She is very lucky to be alive. The mom was screaming and begging Miller to stop what he was doing so she could at least get her kids out. But it was only when deputies arrived with rifles did he finally stop.
They are moving into their new apartment without many of their belongings.

He's facing 25 to life on an attempted murder charge. Good riddance.
