If you really think that you people commenting against the Occupy movement have nothing in common with them, you have been brainwashed. I don't think any of you truly believe for one minute that you have more in common with the 1%. Good grief, people seem to think the word "liberal" is a cuss word or something. It's derivation comes from the word in Latin that means free, which we all are in this country, at least for the moment, anyway. Free to choose. Free to be. Free to disagree. We come from people that "bucked the system" to get you here. They wanted freedom from tyranny and oppression in England. (Australia was founded by convicts for chrissake.) We were a land full of problems from the get go, but to hate people because they are, oh no, liberals....just try to be thankful there are people still willing to fight for their principals!
So enough soapboxing, I actually just wanted to write a column about what I am thankful for, and not what I hate. Sometimes my list gets too long in the "hate column" and this is not a day for that.
I am thankful my 81 year old mother is still with me. As I begin to undergo tests on Monday for a fourth cancer, she is a rock in my corner. Her health is good, her mind pretty intact, and she lives about 2 streets away. She is one of my best friends.
I am thankful for my daughter, who turned 30 yesterday. As a disabled young woman, she grew up without me for all the wrong reasons (mine). She was raised by a loving dad who passed away last year, just shortly after we reconnected. She has been living with me and my husband since last year.
I am so very thankful for my husband, a 100% disabled veteran who makes my world every single day. He lives in constant pain, but he worries more about his son,(my stepson), his grandkids, his stepdaughter, and me. Lord, he does worry about me...
I am thankful that I can still see the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains and smell the clean mountain air. I can still taste the wondrous foods and hear the owl in my backyard.
I am thankful that I have two beautiful grandchildren who live with my beautiful ex daughter in law, who I am also thankful for. She has done one helluva job in raising these two intelligent, vibrant little boys and I am only sorry they don't live closer.
So while I sit in my recliner, in my little tiny mobile home in the "cesspool of sin", I just know there will be folks both happy and unhappy with my post today. I don't really care. I am thankful that we live in a country and a time when we can be free to agree or disagree.
I wish everyone reading this a Happy Thanksgiving and a Happy Holiday season. You can celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Ramadan, Kwanzaa...I don't care. Just take time out today and find something or someone to feel thankful for.
Peace out!
