Discussing OWS Coulter Says: "It Just Took A Few Shootings At Kent State To Shut That Down"
Her vile fantasies of killing bubble up again.

As San Francisco Weekly and others have noted, while discussing Occupy Wall Street on November 17, Ann Coulter stated: "So at the moment anyway, I mean I don't know what's going to happen in New York today, but at the moment I'm not really worried of a movement like SDS which really swept a lot of the college campuses taking over. Of course if it does, just remember the lesson from my book: it just took a few shootings at Kent State to shut that down for good."

Anybody who lived through that era knows full well that the Kent State shootings did very much the opposite. She's just playing on the general population's ignorance and youth.

12. Ann Coulter knows exactly what she's doing and knows exactly who her target audience is.
That is why she says things about shootings that seem hateful to most of us here--but they're perfectly normal musings to certain segments of the population.

Ann Coulter knows that, and so does Fox "News".

The corporate powers-that-be must be feeling a little threatened--they're putting Calamity Annie out there to fire up the sheeple.

16. The youth of today are very brave indeed; to stand for what we of the 60s and 70s could more freely
protest. Sure there were scattered overreactions, shootings, beatings and harassments by TPTB in those times, and maybe it is that my memories deceive me, but today my friends of old and I are afraid, or more accurately - terrified by the unchecked actions our police states use to interpret and enforce laws without accountability for their means of doing so. I am ashamed in feeling proud of our kids for doing the right thing while I fearfully cower. What events are going to have to take place before we as citizens can regain our freedoms, liberties and self respect again?

Why wouldn't she want to say inflammatory and morally reprehensible things? It only brings her more publicity, larger speaking fees, and more book sales. She'll still get invited to speak to wingnut forums like CPAC and Faux news because such places simply have no standards for decency. Do you think she really cares if a wingnut bombs a government building so long as she's making money?

ANYONE getting involved with OWS who doesn't understand that the opposition will shoot as many people as they think they have to - just scale up early 20th century labor unrest to our current population - to keep things under control, is terrifyingly ignorant.

Can we just stop pretending, once and for all, that this is surprising, or unusual, or otherwise not entirely characteristic of corporate rule?

35. Ann Coulter--must say obnoxious, lazy things like this...
...because she has fallen off the map--and the only people who pay attention
to her are the crackpot 10 percent in the crackpot wing of the Republican
party.

No one cares anymore.

Ann spread her cynical venom all over--with her immature books and speeches, and
now her schtick is old.

The only way she gets attention is by saying vile things. She's like a child throwing
a temper tantrum, "Look at me! Look at me! I'm being bad and I need you to pay
attention to me!"

45. Which then precipitated the goals of the protest into success
It is unfortunate- but how long would we have been in Vietnam if it had not been for that horrid act. How long would the Indian people been oppressed if many unarmed peaceful protesters, following the vision of Ghandi, had not been gunned down?I have been saying for weeks that there will be a Kent State before this is all over. Not hopeful- completely dreaded- how many? How young? How old? How many tours of duty had the been on? How many fires had they put out? How many lives have they saved, will save? How many will I have personally known? And how paraded would the cover-up be all over the main-stream media? And how many of our visionaries be assassinated after the fact?
It is not really a comfort to know that this extreme government intervention will only inevitably sway public opinion so ardently towards the goals of the protest- as well as actually stinging what little conscience those in power have left- that there would be no other viable (politically and morally) option. The real comfort will come after the fact, when even if their names are not remembered by most- their legacy will completely change the course of human history. It is the survivors duty to make sure the path continues upward. That the future generations of not only this country, but the world, will be so much better than our own- and that they continue to ascend to the apex of humanity.

49. Mann is obviously a poor student of reality.
Just five days after the shootings, 100,000 people demonstrated in Washington, D.C., against the war and the killing of unarmed student protesters. Ray Price, Nixon's chief speechwriter from 1969–1974, recalled the Washington demonstrations saying, "The city was an armed camp. The mobs were smashing windows, slashing tires, dragging parked cars into intersections, even throwing bedsprings off overpasses into the traffic down below. This was the quote, student protest. That's not student protest, that’s civil war."<8> Not only was Nixon taken to Camp David for two days for his own protection, but Charles Colson (Counsel to President Nixon from 1969 to 1973) stated that the military was called up to protect the administration from the angry students; he recalled that "The 82nd Airborne was in the basement of the executive office building, so I went down just to talk to some of the guys and walk among them, and they're lying on the floor leaning on their packs and their helmets and their cartridge belts and their rifles cocked and you’re thinking, 'This can't be the United States of America. This is not the greatest free democracy in the world. This is a nation at war with itself.'"<8>

Edited on Mon Nov-28-11 05:03 PM by Better Believe It
SDS had split into various tiny sectarian political sects by 1970.

They had little or no influence on the college campuses after 1969.

Meanwhile the anti-war movement on college campuses grew like crazy. Coulter knews little about SDS and other campus organizations during the 60's and early 70's.
