New super-deadly strain of H5N1 avian flu developed in Dutch lab. Everybody panic?
Man-made flu virus with potential to wipe out many millions if it ever escaped is created in research lab

A group of scientists is pushing to publish research about how they created a man-made flu virus that could potentially wipe out civilization.

The deadly virus is a genetically tweaked version of the H5N1 bird flu strain, but is far more infectious and could pass easily between millions of people at a time.

The research has caused a storm of controversy and divided scientists, with some saying it should never have been carried out.

(snip)

Paul Keim, chairman of NSABB (U.S National Science Advisory Board for Biosecurity), said: 'I can't think of another pathogenic organism that is as scary as this one.'

7. You might want to wait until New Year's to judge that.
Unless, of course, you're afraid you'll get H5N1 before then. :scared:

4. Good timing for a distraction.
Real - I have no idea but a good amt of pessimism due to past 'dire outbreaks'.

5. Wasn't Baxter Labs caught doing that in 2009?
Lemme see....Google......ahhhh, yes....

They were caught, then claimed it was an "accident" until it was proven the strain they mixed could not have been
"accidentally" made.
Remember?

6. Shouldn't this qualify as an International crime?
What possible reason might there have been to conduct this project? Because they could?
