Recall Walker Drive Surpassed Halfway Petition Signature Total of 270,000 To Oust Wisconsin Governor
http://hngwiusa.wordpress.com/2011/11/26/recall-walker-drive-surpassed-halfway-petition-signature-total-of-250000-to-oust-wisconsin-governor/
Milwaukee – On Saturday, Recall Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker (R) projections to collect petition signatures have surpassed all expectations to get more than the minimum required signatures per day needed by organizers to meet the amount of 540,000 mark by January 17. After the Black Friday signature petition drive throughout the state, recall organizers projected that most likely they have surpassed the halfway mark of the 270,000 signatures needed or will reach the halfway target total within days to force an election recall against Governor Walker.

Within the first week of the Walker recall, organizers and volunteers collected at least 105,000 to 107,000 petition signatures within four days of the initial start date (Nov. 15), exceeding all expectations.

The Committee to Recall Scott Walker and United Wisconsin were expected to collect the 9,000 minimum per day for 60 days, but have collected threefold of signatures per day and continue to gather the needed signatures to force a recall election.

The recall effort needs to get the needed 540,000 signatures by January 17. Organizers say, they are working to get at least 650,000 to 700,000 signatures.

1. Ha-ha! The Badger Steamroller cometh Scott Walker! Duck!

I hope they keep getting signatures and it turns out that 99% of the citizens of Wisconsin sign it. Wouldn't that be The Real Writing On The Wall! It would be biblical!

2. It would be, but it's a lot more difficult than that.
It's easy to be invigorated and optimistic (and for some, complacent and I speak not of ANY WI DUers when I say that) when you're surrounded by people who are reasonable and have common sense. Those of us in red areas are hopeful but know that his supporters are insanely rabid in their unreasonable support of him and his totally fucked up policies.

These people are well-funded and they are as adamant in their support of him as we are in our opposition. We still need a strong candidate and we also need to stay as fired up ALL THE WAY THROUGH a recall election. Most importantly, we MUST do a better job of getting people to the polls. Especially special elections.

3. Well I've been saying since last Spring. Wisconsin in our Flagship State
Believe me this national and international spontaneous rise of the OWS was not born in a vacuum. Last Spring you guys actually sowed the seed of the idea of Occupy by actually doing just that in Madison. It caught everyone's imagination and the then still unknown and unnamed but nascent 99% supported you.

Just a few months later a handful of young people in NYC started the OWS and named the 99% and did something virtually identical but just a little more thought out.

You guys are the Flagship State and you're still moving on to the next phase fighting every step of the way. You give us hope and you inspire us. You may lose a few areas, but the tide has turned and you'll win. Scott Walker has been the best thing to happen to this country in a long time.

7. Yeah, the people of this state have had me bursting with cheesy pride all year.
:)

I, too, would like to think that the protests here helped set the stage for Occupy. I also am strongly of the opinion that the Occupy movement here is different than a lot of places. We have a clear delineation between good and evil in this state and it is divided between (D) and (R) and, unlike many other places, we cannot ignore that. Our elected state Democrats are leaders of the national party and they've made me proud to be a Democrat again. A Wisconsin Democrat.

5. Several prospects.
Kathleen Falk, who has run for governor before, and Mahlon Mitchell, 34, president of the Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin, as two of a diverse group of potential candidates that include U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl, U.S. Rep. Dave Obey of Wausau, U.S. Rep. Ron Kind of La Crosse, state Sen. Jon Erpenbach, D-Middleton, Assembly Minority Leader Peter Barca, D-Kenosha, and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett.

This war has lots of hard battles to go.

They who celebrate last, celebrate best and I'm looking forward to that celebration.

10. Many of those that have signed the recalls by now are active
The tough part is getting the petitions to the large passive anti-Walker/Kleefisch portion of the electorate. At this time of year, that will probably mean more concentration on urban areas. Although the numbers are impressive, there is no way we are over the biggest obsticles with regards to time and work required to get the recalls completed.

12. UPDATE: This may be false
Edited on Sun Nov-27-11 08:39 PM by PeaceNikki
One Wisconsin Now is stating that this and another report that ALL signatures collected are false and/or not reliable.
