We must never forget the Ukrainian genocide (the Holodomor ).

Today is Ukrainian Famine and Genocide Memorial Day, as proclaimed by an act of Canada's Parliament in 2008, which recognized the Holodomor, the forced famine of up to 10 million Ukrainians in 1932-33 by Soviet dictator Josef Stalin as a genocide.

Canada is one of several countries, including the U.S., Argentina, Italy, Austria and Poland, to recognize the famine as genocide. Victims also have been honoured by various international institutions, including the European Parliament and two United Nations groups.

2. I think the numbers of the Ukrainian genocide are around 10 million.
Give or tale a couple million or so. The other 20 plus million are victims of the Soviets from before and after.

We should remember that FDR formally recognized the Soviet Union during the worst parts of the Ukrainian genocide.

3. DU will never forget the victims- it will just ignore them.
Victims of communism don't rate very highly around here. It hits too close to home.

4. We shall never forget. . .
Ніколе не забудем!! (translation: we shall never forget)

The genocide of millions of Ukrainians must never be forgotten as it was the largest man-made famine never heard of and often denied. If it was done once, it can be done again (and is being done all over the world) -- even with today's media streams. And what was especially insidious is that it happened selectively, one town was starving and another was flourishing, thus creating enough "doubt" among the victims' friends and neighbors of the genocide's occurrence.

Current estimates are round 10mil - 15mil but we will never know for sure. What is proven is that population growth charts for Ukraine (and Georgia) dip dramatically during 1932-1933.

Perhaps one day, the TRUE spirit of the Orange Revolution will rise, not the bastardized version that resulted.
