RIP: Harvey Milk and George Moscone ... 11/27/78. You are not forgotten.
My little brother was stationed at NAS Alameda at the time, and he and his partner lived in the Castro District. They were part of that amazing candle-bearing throng that later paid tribute to Milk and Moscone. Not coincidentally, they are still together, busily threatening the sanctity of marriage, 33 years later. (No doubt their very existence is responsible for the multiple break-ups and re-marriages of such defenders of the sacrament as Rush Limbaugh and Newt Gingrich.)

Oh, and Dan White? Rot in Hell you miserable twinkie-eating piece of shit.

2. Some actions do interrupt the arc of history
But not for too long in the grand scheme of things. Dan White only slowed things down.

4. I was in Berkeley at the time.
It was so so so sad. The newspaper published some large photos of Milk & Moscone and I remember I posted it on my bedroom wall.

7. I was in Oakland at our Vet's.......
having him check out a little scruffy stray poodle we found at Lake Mendocino while camping for the holiday weekend. The first thing the Vet's assistant said was "Did you hear what happened?"

We couldn't believe it!

8. I was in the Middle East.
I read about it in the newspapers and international news magazines. The coverage was pretty good, as print coverage goes. A fair number of pictures, and considerable detail.

Never saw any TV about it until much later.

The Twinkie Defense....what happened to that guy?

9. He committed suicide when they let him out of jail.
Google him. His sentence was shockingly brief. He came back to San Francisco under an assumed name, then killed himself.

10. Hmmm. If he had to kill himself, he should have done that before he went about
shooting others.

Very odd, how he ended up doing the eye for an eye thing on his own.

14. My first thought that day was......
"Why the hell didn't he just do that to start with?"

He'd have done the world a favor!.
