I wondered when the crazy would rise to the top
That's right. I'm talking about Gingrich.

If you imagine at all that Gingrich and his 'intellectual' image that his cheerleaders in the media are promoting on his behalf is somehow in touch with mainstream republican voters (much less any others), you only have to imagine the reaction of republican legislators to the former, disgraced congressman. These folks know Gingrich inside and out and most of them won't touch his candidacy with a ten-foot pole. Romney has almost double the congressional endorsements of Gingrich, earning him the mantle of the candidate of the republican status quo in Congress.

It should come as no surprise that NH's most conservative rag, one of the most staunchly conservative rags in the nation, has endorsed one of their heroes. The idea behind promoting someone who they admit in their endorsement isn't a 'perfect candidate' is to run someone who will litter the political landscape in much the same way McCain-Palin did. They must realize that Gingrich doesn't stand a chance against President Obama, but they've chosen the most committed liar out of a pack of craven liars who will say or do anything to become president.

Still, it's tempting to angle for Gingrich as their nominee, if only for the breadth and depth of issues he's represented or authored that our party and candidate would be well-versed and experienced to oppose.

Newt Gingrich is the crazy king of the bunch, Witness his recent slam of OWS protestors and his suggestion poor kids replace their unionized parents cleaning schools. Gingrich is a wealth of crazy who can only hurt his party's electoral chances.

Hopefully he'll use his newly acquired wealth to keep a rivalry with Romney alive -- forcing Mitt the Deceiver to spend precious time and resource to fend off his republican gadfly of a rival. With luck, Cain and Bachmann will still be dancing around working to recoup a bit of what they've spent so far from fundies who need a pure dose of insanity.

2. Gingrich didn't "rise to the top" ...
the field sank to the point where Gingrich appeared to have risen ...

Kinda like all those lakes in Texas ... you could say all the stuff that people tossed in them over the years "rose" to the top of the water level, exposing the crap.
