It is not free. I pay $110 a month and it just covers the basics.

15. There is no competition. In many states, typically a few large firms dominate the market.
They were exempt from anti-trust law during the Great Depression--I believe--as part of the compromise between those who wanted health insurance reform and those opposed. The deal was that the exemption would be given with the understanding that states would regulate local health insurance providers. Typically, states do not, right-wing states anyway.

The effect is that cartels are created, and because the large firms simply want profit and not competition, they collude on pricing structures and barriers to entry for the particular market. Of course, out-right collusion is illegal, but proving it in a court of law is much more difficult.

I feel for you.

And I am not even with Cigna, it is Blue Shield of California.

This is supposed to be a non-profit!

I wonder what is going on? It seems to be bigger than Cigna/Blue Shield.
