How many times have you heard this meme? Oh, this generation just doesn't want to work
Day I hired into at the factory I retired from there were two hundred of us that hired in that day making top union pay and benefits.

Half of that 200 didn't make it until lunch. They were heading out the door.

Another 50 were gone before the end of the week.

When I retired 30 years later there was only one other guy and myself left out of those original 200 new hires who worked long enough to actually collect a pension.

And that was in 1973. That was not this generation.

Next time you hear someone pull out that meme tell them to blow it right out their ass.

1. Actually, I haven't heard that
about this generation at all. But what I remember hearing (and seeing, because it is the generation of my own young-adult kids and nephews and nieces) during the 00's is that they were never satisfied with their jobs, and kept moving around after a year or two (or even six months or less) to something "better," and then moving again to a different job. That was indisputably true for a lot of the young people I knew. Before the recession, that is.

4. Loyalty....
Yeah I spent 32 years on my job - company went bankrupt. What did I get? My last regular paycheck that's it - no severance, no COBRA, over 90 days since we got the boot and still waiting for our 401k money. So loyalty doesn't mean a damn thing anymore.

5. My son in law was often heard complaining about that until he lost
his job. That is a great teaching event.

7. Most of the poor Gen Xers I know put in 60 plus hour weeks and
when they're home they're checking their email. The 40 hour work week is long gone for these youngsters.
