fwiw (RAYGUN's Alzheimer's) a connected DC wingnut back then told a visitor
Edited on Fri Jan-21-11 12:02 AM by UTUSN
This wingnut with connected wingnuts in DC back then was told, "Jim BAKER is running the country."

Hearing this, my first thought was that it had to be an open "secret" and that many prominent media people needed to tell everybody, but thinking back to those years all of us, most of the country, were making jokes and references to it and, as STAHL said, everybody decided to look the other way. I had previously cracked that Poppy was the one behind the curtain, but really, despite his CIA stuff and our ridiculing his "out of the loop" excuse, his goofy persona has always given the impression that he really WAS a marginal character, more of a courtier than a player.

And the "looking the other way" is the same on different fronts, not toeing the line of responsibility, not protesting hard enough, not filing charges on rogue presidents and phoney wars, letting things drift until it all comes crashing down someday.

(I realize there's a thread with the Leslie STAHL topic, just thought this Jim BAKER stuff stood out.)

2. I always thought it was Mike Deaver that ran the show.
Maybe Deaver handled the domestic side and Baker was the international guy. Regardless, all Reagan had to do was hit the marks and read the script. I always get a chuckle about people who really think Reagan was in charge of his administration....like he was some visionary. He was a tool for the corporations and the 2%er's. I doubt he called the shots when he was Governor of California.
