Poll question: Is there ANY chance that the GOP will come up with a serious candidate for 2012? |
|
I mean one that can even come close to touching Obama.

7. Newt is a founding father of the current incarnation of Republican crazy.. |
|
A lot of what you see as negatives about Newt either register as positives or just don't register with a lot of Republicans and even independents leaning that way.
Newt has the capability of scaring everybody on DU to death in the election.
I don't think he can win but he can come a lot closer than many of you think if the economy doesn't pick up.
Keep in mind that the M$M is going to be on Newt's side to a big extent, if for no other reason than to even up the horse race which is what most of their coverage is about.

8. No matter who they run they will get 40~45% of the popular vote, and that is serious |
|
I'll be quite honest with you, I'm not a bit sure Obama can beat the Republicans no matter who they run and as it looks right now they will come away with the Senate as well as the house, which means they will have a lot to say about the next 3 appointments to the Court too.

14. Actually I think you may have got that backwards |
|
Democrats will vote for anyone the Party puts at the top, just as they did in 2008. Republican's might stay home, but the ones that come out will vote the Party line. So it seems to me that this election, more than anything else will depend on voter turnout. I have little doubt that the Republicans are quite capable of winning this one, and some fear that they might.

My point being, it all depends on where you live as to what the attitudes of people are.

12. When the GOP finally admit that Romney is their nominee... |
|
...the MSM will help to paint him as serious.
But adhering to the Republican platform means saying and doing a lot of stupid shit. Corporate dreams are the opposite of what America needs, so the successful Republican candidate will always look and sound out of step with reality.

21. With the division in the GOP? Not fucking likely. |
|
The only "leading" candidate on their side of the aisle that's even remotely qualified to be president is Mitt Romney. The problem is, Romney won't become a Pentecostal, sign an executive order overturning the Affordable Care Act, create an anti-abortion Gestapo and authorize it to conduct summary executions of anyone who's either had or performed an abortion, or reduce taxes on The Rich to zero percent so they can spend all the money they used to send to the government on creating jobs. NONE of the other candidates will do it either, but that's beside the point.
So the baggers, who are the segment of the GOP that will select Obama's opponent for 2012, will use a checklist to select their candidate that doesn't have "can draw enough support from people who are not in the tea party to actually get elected." And Obama will win 45 states.
