I think it is so unbelievably hilarious how the "anybody but Mitt" GOP primary race is going this year. I mean, I can't be the only one who sees it as a simple matter of the Republican prospects (both the field of candidates and their political future) being so unlikely that essentially, nobody cares. As each candidate gets the "this month's front runner" treatment, the base says "meh" and that candidate sinks into the "under apathy vote", that pool of responders that compete with "don't know" for their slice of the pie. If everyone is unpopular, there must still be someone left who hasn't yet gotten so specifically unpopular that they appear to be popular in comparison. We are now at the point in the cycle when Newt Gingrich (!!!) is the front runner. There is no political figure who is less popular, even among other Republicans, than Newt Gingrich. How bad is the rest of the pack that he could poll well? Where on earth could they turn next once the respondents learn why he is so incredibly unpopular, even in his own party? It is obvious they have short memories; perhaps we will simply start cycling through candidates again, and Perry will once again rise to the elite heights of more than 20%.
