Woman arrested over racist rant on tram

The 34-year-old from New Addington in Croydon, south London, was held on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence after a video came to light on YouTube. The two-minute clip showed a woman insulting passengers while holding a toddler on her lap in a full tram carriage on the Croydon to Wimbledon service in South London.

It quickly spread via Twitter and YouTube, sparking outrage, as the woman in the video could be heard demanding foreign workers "go back to their own country".

It shows the expletive-filled tirade aimed at other passengers while the woman's son plays with a toy figure on her lap. She can be heard saying: "What has this country come to ... with loads of black people and a load of f------ Polish.

"Sort out your own countries, don't come and do mine, Britain is nothing now, Britain is f--- all, my Britain is f--- all now."

When a passenger points out there are children on board, she replies: "Yeah fine, I've got my little kid here."

Tension almost boils over when the incensed woman attempts to pronounce "Nicaragua" and a young black man has to be calmed down by others.

Anyone from a place that had "the sun never sets on the British empire" as its unofficial motto for some time because of the number of countries it had invaded should not in any way be whining about immigration.

There have probably been a million books on European, particularly British "colonialism" and the impact it's had around the world. One very telling impact was the rise of colorism in many countries with "pale" and "light" being immediately preferable to anything dark.

"Black Adder," one of my husband's favorite British shows and now one of mine, has a couple of good scenes of Capt. Black Adder (played by Rowan Atkinson) whining about going to war with Germany because when he joined the British army "they fought naked people that threw spears" and the most work he had to do was learning how to say "do you do it doggy doggy in Swahili." He was pissed because Germany would have the same technology as the British, his first time fighting a war with an actual technological equal, and he was scared sh*tless.

I always feel that stories such as that, as well as John Olliver on The Daily Show referring to British museums as "active crime scenes," give another perspective to the whole "British colonialists as saviors" narrative.

Her poor little darling has a Sherlock cap as well. So young he is, with such a defeated look. I can imagine he's feeling humiliated by his crazy dipsomaniacal mummy, even at his young age.
