Snowless Scandinavians wonder 'where's winter?'

STOCKHOLM (AP) -- For some reason, Scandinavia is not its frigid self, with unusually warm weather delaying the onset of winter in northern latitudes normally decked in white.

The lack of snow has been bad news for winter sports -- World Cup ski races have been dropped, or held on artificial snow, and mountain ski resorts are unable to open.

There are even reports of bird song and blooming gardens in some places typically entering the winter freeze at this time of year.

"Some flowers, like roses, have actually begun to blossom for a second time," said Mats Rosenberg, a biologist in Orebro, south-central Sweden.

2. Alaska is getting their winter.
Edited on Mon Nov-28-11 06:32 PM by Blue_In_AK
We've had three times more snow here in Anchorage than is normal for this time of year. If we get eight more inches before the end of the month, it will break a record. It could happen. We're predicted another snow dump for tomorrow night and Wednesday.

17. It's freaky
last year at this time we had already gotten well over 50 inches of snow. While there have been years our first snow was at around Christmas, the weather was icy/cold before then.

Syracuse, NY-- I guess we'll lose the golden snowball this year.
