depressed by the current state of our society I am mourning it.
Every time I read of one of the really vile things said and done by the GOP elite and their most rabid fellow travelers my heart dies a little. I am watching us die as an idea and a nation and while there are many who see this dying too there are so many that want to ignore the signs and symptoms. They have rendered themselves comatose and think they will somehow float on some raft into the past of their imaginings; that this country will be what they thought it was in the 1950's.
Those of us aware know that there has never been a wonderful year or decade in our history only occasional triumphs over our inertia and self-absorption.
But we will succumb and I am mourning that.

you can do about it.

The OWS has reached that point. I wouldn't call that succumbing.

Here's a site that lists 7 stages which breaks down the conventional 5 stages a little further. Just substitute losing a loved one with losing our Democratic ideals to the GOP insanity.

I have lost 8 family members in the past 3 1/2 years including my father and both of my brothers so I sort of know the feel of mourning.
I am also a Democratic Precinct Chair and an election judge. My sense of dread is not coming from lack of involvement but from the awful feeling that nothing can now change the course of the crisis about to befall us because of the many who don't or won't see it. Our next few years are going to be very very difficult and my grandchildren will be the ones to come of age in the turmoil. I mourn that they and all the children and young adults of today are facing tremendous and live threatening challenges with little or no support from the rest of us.

And I'm not trying to say that mourning is something to be avoided. I've lost family members too, though certainly not in such a concentrated space of time.

I am raw, emotionally, from all the BS I see around me and the losses. I think it is the same sort of energy that is driving the OWS. Thank you again.

Someone sits on GD unreccing all the OPs as they get posted. Haven't you noticed how everything gets unrecced immediately, within the first seconds of being posted?

you need to look more closely. We have a bipartisan problem. We need to get the corporate money out of our government.
