AT&T Donates $377,500 to The Tea Party
Edited on Fri Jan-21-11 01:39 PM by Ian David
That’s a lot of dough. Why would AT&T give so much to politicians dedicated to shredding nearly every environmental safety and consumer protection law on the books? No doubt Tea Party Caucus creator and ringleader, Michele Bachmann of Minnesota, has the answer. Since 2006, she has received $19,500 from AT&T. On the Senate side, AT&T has given $10,000 to the Senate Conservatives Fund, which supported rising Tea Party stars Ron Johnson, Pat Toomey, Marco Rubio and Rand Paul.

1. I'm guessing the Tea Party is against net neutrality.
That's the only logical explanation I can think of on why AT&T would support teabaggers.

2. Because the corporate elite are their REAL bosses, while they PLAY tea party with the gullible
masses duped into believing the 'populist' rhetoric.

7. That is their motto. I have had an ongoing feud
with AT&T since last August. Always check your bill before paying it. They have tried to make me pay more thatn I owe for a long time.

5. Doesn't AT&T have a case before the Supreme Court claiming that it has "Personal Privacy Rights"?
Arguing that since Corporations are People Now, Corporations must have Personal Privacy Rights?

(apparently even the wingnuts on the supreme court are not buying this)

8. A rather meaningless figure to me.
Without knowing how much was given to Democratic candidates, there is no context.

9. Shit... my wife switched us over to U-verse last fall...
we're up to our eyeballs in AT&T: phones, internet, cable.

Is there an alternative? Comcast?

13. I ask the same questions....
First I got U-verse, which includes TV and wireless internet. It was less expensive than two separate bills with anyone else. Plus much better reception. Then I got an I-Phone, which of course meant another AT&T obligation. But I have to say, my cell phone now reaches our remote ranch area, which was NOT served by either Sprint or Verizon. So, as a consumer, I'm a happy fellow. However, I HATE AT&T's record of participation in the spying scandals, monopoly status, and other assorted "crimes" of fighting environmental laws, contributing to Repub. crazies, and more........ What to do????? To be consistent with your conscience???? Or stay up with technology???? Any suggestions???? If there were another source of wireless internet, I could probably give up TV, eventually, because more and more programming is being made available online. And soon, I-Phone's will be delinked from AT&T, so that could be a distinct possibility, if the other services are improved over my previous experience with them.

10. I do no business with AT&T.
Have not for many years because of the contribution pattern of that company. None of my money went to those political contributions.

11. Well, I know some are going to say "they all do it...."
but, AT&T have been so egregious about, not only conservative support, but also so totally enabling the wireless surveillance program of the Bush*s. I've been tempted to switch to AT&T over the years, because of the Iphone. I'm glad, I did not give in.

16. They all give conservatively
According to opensecrets.org, in the last couple decades, AT&T has favored Republican candidates with their donations 55% to 45%. Sprint-Nextel, the carrier used by Working Assets, has favored Republicans to Democrats 55% to 45%. Verizon has favored Republicans 59% to 41%. Verizon is the most conservative in its giving.

According to HRC.org's ratings, ATT and Sprint-Nextel receive 100 ratings for workplace equality and are listed as Best Places to Work. Verizon gets a 70 rating for workplace equality, and isn't listed as a Best Place to Work. Again, Verizon is the most conservative company.

ATT and Sprint-Nextel give the most equally between the two parties, and care most about workplace equity and community activism. Verizon seems to be the most conservative in its political giving, and is less concerned with providing equity in its workplace and supporting community activism. For my money, I'd go with ATT or Sprint-Nextel if I were worried about where my dollars go once I give them to the corporations.

17. The Tea Baggers are a Front for the Billionaires
not surprised.... they donate to an angry psychotic mob of bigots and ignorant losers. The wealthy elite have always found dolts to fight their fights for them through use of lies and propaganda. The Know Nothings of today.
