Poll question: Do you agree that the American political right is the furthest right in the Western World?
Edited on Fri Jan-21-11 04:56 PM by Dawson Leery
"American Right" is a reference to the Republican Party and self-described Conservatives.
If you disgree, please state who you see as being further to the right.

1. Not even close. Edit to add, anyone voting yes has no clue regarding international politics.

2. No but pretty far right, and in power.
You might want to clarify what you mean by 'the american right' as it is not one entity.

5. The best, or worse as the case may be, of right wing regimes
are generally personality driven. Dictator rises from the masses or military and inflicts their will on the people. We are far from that but I believe the potential is there when I see some of the people who are acting out on our political stage of late.

7. No. The right in France, Italy and other European countries are very anti-immigrant,
anti-trade, anti-globalism - basically anti-"everyone who isn't a member of the majority group in their country".

8. Iran, under the rule of the 'Supreme Poobah' and his' Puppet Carpetbagger'

The "American political right" is likely too fat and lazy to be so mean and ferocious (when proselytizing their geopolitical beliefs, notwithstanding American neonazi terrorists) when compared to some places like Iran or Saudi Arabia.

They have developed xenophobia almost into a science.

Does Israel count as a Western nation?

13. People don't know how good we've got it here
How many in Africa, South America, Asia have been murdered by right wing organizations and cabals?

If everything the GOP wanted came into existence things would be unpleasant but hardly on the scale of having your family killed because you subscribe to DU.

15. While the US is not the most rw country now, or for that matter ever,
it does not mean it is healthy.

I could mention a few African governments that make ours look like we are socialists and shit... (mugabe comes to mind, right out of the bat) and of course there is always Myanmar...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burma

Now talk of a classic RW state that makes us look like Sweden.

I must admit your qualifier of Western World, limits this to oh... Italy and Berlusconi... again a RIGHT that has dug deep into the roots of El Duce.

17. 'All depends on how you define "the Western World", doesn't it?
Limit yourself to Europe and the Americas, maybe
"Yes".

Include the Arab world and we don't even come close.
