1. Don't worry.

We're getting rid of the unrecs.

As reported today in "Ask the Administrators" ---

14. I hate that line.
Once upon a time in a Sales Office very close
by....

Everyone and his brother was writing sales using
a forbidden rate scale. We were NOT supposed to
use the lower rate scale unless a customer was
increasing their ad size, but EVERYONE was using
the lower scale for ALL sales because it was...

LOWER.

I told my manager that everyone was writing sales
with the lower rates, at first she didn't believe
me, then I SHOWED her the contracts...then she
said ...

"If everyone jumped off a bridge, would you?"

I replied:

"If I observed my co-workers jumping off a bridge,
diving into the water, swimming to the other side,
and receiving REWARDS and FAT COMMISSION CHECKS,
then "YES", I'm over the rail...see you on the shore
with one of those giant checks!"

26. The best news I heard today
I was appalled yesterday when I asked for positive vibes for someone here who's sister was beaten, tortured and almost left for dead and someone had the nerve to unrec. This woman almost died and it was unrecd.

Not only the person who I asked for postive vibes as offended but I was deeply hurt trying to help someone out.

These were twins - they are have deep feelings.

30. I would miss it desperatey -- & I mean, desperately -- if "rec's" were still allowed.
Sometimes it's absolutely necessary to "unrec" posts by very likeable DUers who have a habit of posting uninformative posts that can only be appreciated by mindreaders. Then these posts actually end up littering the GP for no other reason than the likeability of the poster.

Let the number of responses dictate what is most worthy of being highlighted on the GP.

I see no use for "unrecommend". How do you know the true total of number of "recommends" if the "unrec." is also not tallied???????? Why is "unrec" not tallied? Just get rid of it.

It will be back to the same old shit it used to be where small cliques dominate the "greatest" page. Get ready to have "Obama sucks!" be on the front page every day.

37. Well there is a way to counter that...
A stupid thread might make it to the front page for a bit, but if people go ahead and give tons of recs to more worthy threads, the stupid one should find itself scrolling quickly off the front page.

It also helps, I think, not to add to the problem by replying to stupid threads. Not that replies have anything to do with threads finding their way to the front page, but they can be pushed straight to the fifth or sixth page and out of sight from lack of replies.

43. As long as the 'Greatest' Page is renamed the "DU Clique Size Competition" page, what could go wrong
Well, apart from when OPs that turn out to be completely false get recommended by some gullible DUers who accept the first claim without any evidence, and then the more conscientious DUers who disprove a false OP, or see that another DUer has disproved it, are now left without any means of stopping the BS being put forward as "the Greatest" of DU ...

Views is plenty..

Let the threads flourish or fail, by the amount of commenting & discussion..not by the cowardly drive-by un-rec snipers

Mods & admin have always had the ability to remove "unseemly" threads from the "Lah-dee-dah" home page & the "Greatest-Bestest-Evah-In-the-Whole-Wide-World" pages.

The rec/wreck "feature" was just a bon mot to the vitriolic ones here who hold grudges or who feel themselves to be superior & worthy of deciding what "should" or should not be "seen".

Better access to the archives & the ability to hide thread by keyword, and the sort forum & archive by views & poster/date have always been at the top of MY wish list:)
