It's like a bad dream and I can't wake up. Is this really happening? Republicans, with Democratic complicity, are getting ready to gut the government, including Social Security and with it the hope and sweat of generations, because it is SO IMPORTANT to (all of a sudden) get spending under control while we continue to piss away billions on wars and tax breaks for millionaires. Please tell me this is only a skit on SNL!

It is a terrifying feeling to face the reality that our three branches of government are not interested in securing the welfare of the people. We are a one party nation now. I don't hear anyone in the media (text or tv) reporting on anyone who has any sort of a plan. Citizens are truly voiceless now. We have no president, no elected officials, no grassroots movement or leadership...we have nothing.

I don't think we are going to like what we see when the true desperation of millions is released.

Or is it always darkest before it gets totally pitch black? One or the other ;)

I think the system has already essentially broken down and any change will come swift, when it happens. We are like the proverbial Wile E. Coyote suspended somewhere in mid-air. Take care of yourself, family, friends, neighbors. Develop strong local ties. Cut the corporations out of your life as much as possible. Don't store all of your savings, if you have any, in US dollars or dollar-based financial assets (diversify). Enjoy simple things, and learn a skill that might earn you decent side income as conditions deteriorate.
