There is another possibility on Keith's situation....

Point 1: Obama has not gotten an new press secretary

Point 2: If he were to tap Keith, I couldn't think of a better voice to give Obama the 'fighting' cred.

Point 3: Assuming #2, the task of making the announcement would fall to President Obama, NOT Keith.

Point 4: Assuming #2, he could NOT make the announcement while Keith was still a 'sitting anchor', conflict of interest city.

Point 5: Comcast would have to be insane to pull this. They KNOW that all hell would break loose.

This is a gut feeling, but this may be a good thing....

What The Hell Was That About?
Josh Marshall | January 21, 2011, 9:06PM

I was just on in the opening segment of Olbermann tonight. And I get home and get this press release from NBC saying this was the last episode of Countdown. At first I figured it had to be a spoof email because, jeez, I was on and I didn't have any sense that any other than a regular Friday evening show was on. But sure enough I pulled up the recording and now I'm watching his final sign off.

I doubt I would have had any heads up or known anything was happening if Olbermann was going to go off the air. But I was a bit more stunned than I might otherwise have been because I was just over there. And I did not have any sense that there was anything any different than normal going on. Everything seemed calm and pretty sedate. There were a few more people than I'm used to seeing in the studio -- maybe two or three who seemed to be there to watch. But nothing that made me think twice that anything odd was going on.

I'm sure we'll be hearing soon enough what on earth happened here. But color me stunned. And really disappointed.

Don't see anything in there about 'advance notice'

5. I don't think Keith would want the job of being a shill
which is all a press secretary is. If you're right on this,I'll eat my words, but I highly doubt it.

9. I think that's why he is leaving MSNBC, too.
I strongly suspect this was more his doing than Comcast's.

8. I don't believe Keith would be willing to do it.
I think he prizes his outsider-hood too much.

12. too much of a lightning rod
not worth the blowback.

He's also criticized Obama too much. Would lead to too many uncomfortable questions.

17. No WAY
Obama is actually going the "other " way.He is running hard toward the center. He is convinced,I believe, that is his best chance to get reelected. He saw what happened in the mid terms and took notice.I would not be surprised if David Pluffe (sp?) is not advising him to go in that direction.Besides Keith just does not have the personality to be a good press secretary and I am fairly certain realizes that and would not want the job.
