Predictions re: Olbermann?
For starters - I say he goes to Huffington Post like Fineman.

1. I don't think he can do anything until his
contract is up. That's what happened to David Shuster.

2. The word we have so far is that they cancelled the contract
I'd bet that Huffington is already trying to reach him. And Salon, too.

16. Saw your post in the other thread about the contract
Odd how they extended it to 2012. Now I have to wonder if they're trying to sink him. And further wonder if he could challenge them on it if it was intentional to shut him up. A person has to make a living.

He could join Joan Walsh and write his own book - on the industry.

21. It occurred to me that if his contract is until the
end of 2012, it could put him out to pasture and he would have to start from scratch again. I hope it isn't so. :-(

22. Not "cancelled" but bought out and the buyout didn't come cheap
something approaching 2 yrs salary coupled to an 18 month noncompete clause.

10. Current TV
or HDNet

or some such.

Not unlike what Howard Stern did . . . . go out and try to be a franchise.

I'd say HDNet, with Rather, who isn't getting younger.

Could you imagine if Aaron Brown joined them, too?

12. Aaron Brown?!
I haven't thought of him in so long. Yunno what? If you sent him an email at CNN he actually answered it. We had some good arguments over issues via email.

24. Me, too!
We were practically pen-pals. I was a regular at MWO at the time, and there was that big brouhaha about people writing him nasty letters attributed to MWO readers, etc.... Do you remember that?

We had a little falling out over Paul Wellstone's memorial service... and a short time after that, he seemed to join the ranks of the "common wisdom" of the time (= buying the BushCo bullshit).

Too bad. He had potential.

23. I think he took that gig shortly after he left CNN
I also get the impression (but have no proof) that its a base for him, but leaves him free to do a lot of other projects.

28. I sense something on the order of working with Michael Moore
We may be experiencing an extremely sharp shift in the way the corporate media is trying to hang on the the old ways... Moore's been on the outside a VERY long time and has survived. Olbermann really looks up to people like him (and his audience, did ya hear him?)

The American people have had enough.... or have they?

At the same time Mr and Mrs America like drones in front of Fox News and their talking points, the rest of us Americans have felt the final sting of what we thought was a kinder, safer world.

This could be the start of what we thought was the media, but it's never really been for a long time.

We- RIGHT HERE are that media with our magical corporate/Comcast dominated, FCC forgotten media of the past. They forgot about us.

But, we are here right now.

The question is... what are we to do? How do we decide we're getting our news, commentary, thought provoking media?

He'll resurface with his friends... people like Maddow will be one of them and so will Moore. Not sure about Ed, and forget the rest of them.

30. Someone posted that his contract break has an 18 month no compete clause
So we don't know yet what his options can be.

Fingers crossed since your idea sounds like a very good fit. I'd like to see Moore do a doc about the msm. KO is the hand that fits that glove.

"forget the rest of them" - What you say!

31. you know something about those "non compete" clauses, eleny...
I think it's hard to say in a field that big that you can't go elsewhere. Of course, look who is bigger and badder and I suppose it could apply.

But, what a great time to work on a big project with the masters behind you.

These are some interesting time, alright.

like CNN, but they won't take him. They would, however, take a Repuke shill. I know he has a place, but let's hope it's not small scale.
