And they got that Young Turks guy too.

I adore Keith but I'd like to hear the whole story first before I judge.

32. He is taking over Ed's 6pm slot ...
... and Ed is shifting up to 10pm. O'Donnell will take over Olbermann's current slot. Maddow remains where she is, I gather. This is per a Comcast.net article.

just exchanging one anti-Obama, "progressive" (Olbermann) for another anti-Obama "progressive" (Cenk).

15. O'Donnell is getting that time slot
Cenk is going on at 6pm

http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118030694

Lawrence O'Donnell's show, currently called "The Last Word," will move to 8 p.m., while "The Ed Show" will move to 10 p.m. Cenk Uygur, a contributor to MSNBC and host of the web show "The Young Turks," will fill in as host of the 6 p.m. hour, the network said.

_____________

Mind you I stand correct - Cenk seems to be a long term fill-in

23. I'm a liberal Democrat. I know what that means. I know who that
emcompasses. That's how I identify myself. Progressives include anarchists, commies and socialists. While I don't think socialism is a bad thing, at the present it's political suicide for a politician to self-identify as a socialist...for the most part.

13. Eh, it took AOL Time Warner awhile to clean house
at CNN. You don't do it all at once. They know they have ratings with the liberal bloc. By eliminating these guys one by one, they think they will hang on to their viewership, and turn them to their propaganda by airing stories about dead interns and stuff like CNN did, while ignoring the news, but they really need to take a lesson from CNN who aren't doing so well and seem to be making an attempt to get back to real news.

Edited on Fri Jan-21-11 10:01 PM by Eric Condon
Thus, he will experience a drop-off in ratings that will affect all the other progressive shows, at which point MSRNC will have an "excuse" to "clean house" and replace ALL their liberal hosts with Faux castoffs. They know where the money is, and they know where their corporate interest lies. Wow, it's almost like we have a free press not owned by corporations in this country!

31. M$NBC is all about the money...
they would put on the Glenn Beck equivalent progressive if it would make them money. Just seems that liberals don't like that kind of stuff.

They are a corporation, but monopolizing the left on cable news has been a good business strategy for them, so I imagine they will keep that tactic while it's still working.

This just looks like personal issues between management and Keith.

Oberman has been the most partisian, Rachael is next, but she has Repubs on her program and Oberman never did.
I suppose O"Reilly is jumping for joy. Him and the other Fox partisans have been gunning for Oberman for a while now.

35. Give them time...
Firing all four at once would make it look too much like a political purge, plus it would be hard to line up new talent to fill all those spots at once.

The "sensible" solution is to take down the biggest of them right away, and let it serve as a warning to the others to toe the line or else.

I would expect Rachel and Ed to be cut loose, one after the other, by summer at the latest. O'Donnell will probably "get the message," adopt an ultra-"centrist" tone, and will be allowed to continue along with Matthews. I'm sure Cenk will be phased out quietly, and center-right voices brought in to fill the slots of the departed progressives.

40. In addition, negotiating an end to the contract and a non-compete clause hints that Keith wanted out
If MSNBC just wanted to screw him, they'd just pull him off the air and keep his contract intact...just like they did to Schuster.

So this definitely seems like there's a bit more to come out about this.
