and it does sink like a rock. But then you see a thread with a subject title like "Palin Sucks!" and it gets all kinds of responses and tons of Recs?

Ultimately though, a kick means more than a Rec because it keeps the thread moved to the top of its forum. Imagine though a thread that is titled "KO sucks!" and since there is only Rec a handful of posters could put that onto the Greatest Page with no recourse for those who disagree. But then people always tend to get worked up and whine if anyone dares to give their OP an UnRec or one with which they agree. UnRec was a concrete means of expressing disagreement. Lack of attention could simply mean that the thread was posted at a bad time of the day or that the obsession du jour at DU overwhelmed it.
