1. I am in the process of adopting a little girl from another land
So since I believe she will be having a better life here than where she's at now, I voted other. But I hope she decides to stay here and be a good citizen.

But, if I did have kids, I would tell them to stay in the USA, if that's what they wanted to do. I still think the USA is a great place to live.

11. I do have a number of nieces and nephews all of which will stay in the US
I don't blame them - their ancestors fought for this country and hopefully they can bring it closer to the idealsit was founded on.

47. i would tell them to do whatever they like, but make sure to get the kind of education
Edited on Sun Jan-23-11 08:15 PM by Hannah Bell
that will give them options, e.g.:

1. learn a language or two -- well
2. learn a skill such as wiring, plumbing, shoemaking, something

i would also teach them to ignore the bullshit the media parades in front of kids to turn them into morons

i would also teach them basic class consciousness

If that happens to be in another country, so be it.

5. I would tell my kid, if I had one, that when they grow up,
THEY should decide where they want to live. All I would ask is that they, first, visit a few times whatever country they were thinking of moving to, just to get a feel for the place and be sure that's what they want to do.

They could even take Mom along for fun, if they wanted. O8)

I wouldn't tell my kid whether to stay in the US or not.

Unless I suddenly become unbelievably wealthy, in which case, they can live wherever they want.

12. I keep suggesting that they move to Finland
I've got lots of family in Finland (all 4 grandparents were born in Finland) and am considering moving there in my upcoming retirement years. My kids seem to think they'd have a language barrier but it's Finland so no one would be talking to each other anyway.

19. When I Was in My 20s,
someone asked me whether I thought America was the greatest nation on earth. I immediately said "no".

They then asked me what country I thought was the greatest on earth. I thought for awhile. And then changed my mind.

As Jon Stewart said on Thursday night, being a superpower is like being a Santa Claus...that everyone wants to kill.

20. I voted other.
Personally, if I were younger, I'd go. The best I can do now is give my kid (20) the best education possible so that he can make up his own mind and have the ability to go where he wants.

We have talked about this though and he knows my concerns as to the direction this country is headed currently.

32. Other.
Without stating the terms or condition of which the Poll is targeted at, as in 'forever' for spring break etc I can't say.

I however add that I would urge and make my best effort to have any children I might have to spend time abroad either in vacations that were more than touristy crap or to study/work abroad if I could not move my supposed family overseas for some time period. Exposure to other countries/cultures/world view other than the US and the media has something to add to a person's character in my opinion and is something I'd very much like to 'teach' my children.

37. I'm leaving...
I can see where the wind is blowing. Things don't look so good for the future of the US. I'm tired of living in this backwards, war-mongering country. I'll probably move to Canada, since it's the closest and probably the easiest to adapt to. Though, I wouldn't mind moving somewhere in Europe or Australia, if only to keep as much distance from me and the US as possible.

40. My ancestors came here for a better life & I tell my kids to leave here for one
I tell mine to go to Canada, Europe, Japan, or Vermont where there is Universal Health Care.

It SEEMS (where I live & the people I've met from abroad here) only come here for the colleges, temporary (grab the $$) engineers & management, or people from 3rd world or war torn countries. I am only speaking of my Personal experience in the region of the US that I live in, I'm sure elsewhere it is not like that.
