Dang the war on drugs has really gotten hotter south of the border
According to the Mexican press the Army captured 24 rifles, one hand gun, two RPGs, 18 40 mm grenades, two hand grenades, one missile launcher, 327 magazines and three vehicles...

Yes I read the AP bad translation and since I understand DODese for the Mexican Military.,, I went trolling mexican press.

Speaking of upping the ante...

Now many years ago I remember seeing one captured Stinger... and no, they never went public, so this is also quite a step up in reporting... makes me wonder what else.

DANG... and holy shit.

This El Moquete township is in Tamaulipas, a couple hours from the US Border, btw.

1. Military-grade weapons probably came from Central America:
http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world/la-fg-mexico-arms-race15-2009mar15,0,229992.story

Traffickers have escalated their arms race, acquiring military-grade weapons, including hand grenades, grenade launchers, armor-piercing munitions and antitank rockets with firepower far beyond the assault rifles and pistols that have dominated their arsenals. Most of these weapons are being smuggled from Central American countries or by sea, eluding U.S. and Mexican monitors who are focused on the smuggling of semiauto- matic and conventional weapons purchased from dealers in the U.S. border states of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California... Some of the weapons are left over from the wars that the United States helped fight in Central America, U.S. officials said.

4. As I said, I saw a Stinger with my own eyes
Not to say that they are not part of the black market... I mean we sold them like candy to the Taliban and they, in turn. sold them to everybody and their sister. Though that one WAS US made.

I am just pointing this out as well. The AP sucks.

Oh and some of these things are coming from the US as well. (Oh and don't forget Mexican Army armories)

But things like the Barrett 50, are coming from the US. It is called El Camino de las Hormigas, the ant road... since they are taken in ones and twos and there is no way in hell every car can or will be checked.

2. They never expected the drugs to start seriously fighting back, did they.
Mayhaps it's time to think of a sane exit strategy, perhaps one that begins with acknowledging that consenting adults may put things in their bodies from time to time that the powers-that-be don't approve of.

3. Answers: U.S. needs to 1) stop ASKING for drugs 2) spend on rehab instead of "wars"
The drug producers (Supply) have always said that if the U.S. wouldn't ASK (Demand) for drugs, they (Supply) wouldn't SEND them. Same goes for undocumented immigration (cheap labor).

So, either the rehab/education/social-services route or the Libertarian legalization, instead of a "War on Drugs."

7. It's obvious the War on Drugs approach has been a major FAIL
As has been blaming undoc'd immigrants for immigration problems. The problem is U.S. policies that perpetuate the problems, both here and in Mexico.
