Cork diocese now the target of new investigation



Eight cases concerning a pedophile priest in County Cork accused of raping young girls have been sent back to authorities there after originally being rejected.

All of the files relate to abuse allegations alleged to have been carried out by Father B, a cleric who assaulted and raped girls in North Cork.

The diocese of Cloyne and its former bishop John Magee are already under separate investigations for harboring pedophile priests.

Magee was Secretary to three popes and was a leading figure in the Irish church until the pedophile investigations began. Opponents claim he used his clout to block investigations

We have warning labels on so many items that I think this would be appropriate.

2. I can imagine what those young girls went through to be believed.

My mother was furious at the "lies" I was "making up" when I finally tried to describe what our pediatrician was doing to (pre-adolescent) me during "physical exams."

Mother responded, "Don't you EVER say anything like that again!" and remained darkly furious for hours, and that was the end of it.

And that man was only a doctor, not a man sanctified by holy vows, dedicated to tending the spiritual needs of the tender members of his flock.

Years later the doctor was convicted of sexually abusing children (this was in the 'fifties) and actually served time in jail. (I happened to find the story in the newspaper decades later.)

I've read about Catholic fathers beating little boys with belts for "lying" about what the priest was doing to them.

And meanwhile the Holy Father is all excited about the beatification of his predecessor.

6. It worked out okay, long run -- I've helped a couple other parents

recognize when their kids were being abused.

It's just not something parents expect to happen, obviously.

5. Proof positive that if the Church got rid of all the gay priests, there wouldn't be a pedophile

problem....
