Nor do I have a clue as to where these 'reliable sources' may be located - much less what makes them so 'reliable.'

Says that is a factor in KO's leaving. I say BINGO!

16. KO's just a bit too strong for Brokaw's fragile sensibilities.
I could be more charitable and say it's because Brokaw is old-school journalism where opinion and reporting don't mix. However, you can't really classify Countdown as a news show. And as I said downthread, I watched MSNBC on election night and Brokaw must have been watching something else. I think it's because Brokaw has turned sharply right in his politics and what KO says ruffles too many of his feathers.

21. I can't recal Brokow ever committing journalism, news reading sure
never anything resembling journalism or actual reporting. It may have happened before he was on the Today show.

But as I said, I was being generous in my assessment of Brokaw's motives.

23. Brokaw seems to be in the typical corporate media false equivalence camp
The idea is to pit Republican comments versus Democratic comments and you have instant balance in the media. So Brokaw could have Republicans saying "Obama wants to kill grandma" and then have Democrats saying "well, that's just not true," and he would think that's all the 'reporting' one needs to do on the subject. Obviously Olbermann's format went too deeply into factual analysis instead of just parroting political talking points against each other.

12. Any thoughts on whether Rachel or Ed will "dial back" on their shows, too?
Sounds like there's a big game of chicken going on at MSNBC.

And I guess it's no surprise that the real boss at NBC/MSNBC is Brokaw. If you piss off Tom -- watch out.

I watched MSNBC on Election Night and I don't recall KO or anyone else making fun of the Tea Baggers. Seems to me the Tea Baggers were doing a pretty fair job of looking foolish all by themselves.

20. If Brokaw were the "real boss" you'd've seen changes earlier. This is about the Comcast takeover.
Which may give Keith's old critics at NBC more of a voice in some ways, but it's still about Comcast.

17. David Zurawik was disgusting, obviously out to settle scores with KO.
Edited on Sun Jan-23-11 11:40 AM by highplainsdem
He admitted that he's been named one of the Worst Persons in the World before.

But of course that wouldn't have anything to do with his obnoxious attempts to drown out David Shuster whenever Shuster defended Keith or said anything critical of Fox News.

Or his own attempts at character assassination by falsely accusing Keith of character assassination for daring to point out that Beck has fantasized on air about killing Michael Moore and O'Reilly had kept repeating "Tiller the Killer" to his brainwashed audience.

He even compared Keith to Joe McCarthy.

David Zurawik IS today's "Worst Person in the World."

The one who kept crying that KO's attacks on Beck and O'Reilly were over the top?

Last name started with a Z -- that's all I remember.

27. This is Zurawik's blog post whining about Olbermann having named him a "worst person in the world."
http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/entertainment/zontv/2009/05/olbermann_worst_person_msnbc_z.html

Olbermann was rightly upset about Zurawik saying that MSNBC and Fox News are bad for America, equating the two.

And Zurawik's "big deal" comment there was belied by his nasty comments about Keith this morning, and his especially rude attempts to keep Shuster from pointing out the differences between MSNBC and Fox and between Keith and Beck and O'Reilly.

30. Zurawik also called Olbermann a "rabbit punching swine" in a radio interview where he whined
about being criticized, about the same time he published his blog whining about Keith criticizing him. I found that on a rightwing website that specifically targets Olbermann -- they loved it. Not sure I can post that link here.

31. From Crooks and Liars - what Zurawik said about MSNBC that led to Keith
naming him one of the worst persons in the world. Note that all of Zurawik's specific and wrongheaded complaints here are about MSNBC:

http://crooksandliars.com/david-neiwert/reliable-sources-david-zurawik-gets

And since those comments had been made on Reliable Sources, Kurtz was of course fully aware of Zurawik's animus toward Olbermann and no doubt invited him on today's show specifically to smear Olbermann again.
