My Congressman, John Shimkus, regularly posts Biblical verses on his official Facebook and twitter page. I was reading his Facebook page today when I noticed the unfortunate verse he posted on the morning Gabrielle Giffords and others were attacked.

Romans 1:32 Who, knowing the judgment of God, they which commit such things are worthy of death, doing same, and having pleasure in them

It appears that the verse was posted earlier in the morning before the shooting.

I wondered what “they” the verse was referring to so I looked up the first chapter of Romans. The preceding verses focus on those who “knew God” but turn from him. It names a long list of sins, but the chapter is more well known for being one of the few Biblical references to homosexuality.

26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

1. The things that concerned Jesus - he spoke about.
If Jesus was concerned about gay people he would have said so.
He didn't. It's not like we were unknown.

3. The Christian Identity movement, the Dominionists.
yes. They plan to do harm.

They are not mainstream in any Christian sense. Many are Sarah's fans. The teabaggers.

He posted it prior to the shooting, but there is a little "X" that would delete it. It could have been done out of a mainstream, generally accepted sense of decency. Not by violent religious nutbag standards, just average, well-adjusted-human standards.

4. I'd counter that with the verse about the dark one posing as creature of light.

5. Was it Shimkus who first ran for office all in favor of term limits
. . .until time was supposed to be up for him. . .? And suddenly, he was doing too much "good" for the people and needed to stay in Washington?

10. Yes.
He also walked out on Obama during the state of the union.
He also said CO2 was plant food, and that the Bible says there's no global warming.
Also helped cover up the Foley page scandal.
Compared the Iraq War to the Cubs v. Cardinals baseball rivalry.

Basically, he's a disgrace to Congress in a gerrymandered district that no Democrat can win.

6. way to leave out those middle verses
29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness,; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful
32 who, ...

yeah sure, verse 32 is all about gays and unbelivers.

11. So people who disobey their parents are also worthy of death.
Could you explain how that makes it better? I don't believe leaving out those verses misrepresents the meaning of what Shimkus posted in any way.

8. He needs to face reality
First of all, Rep. Giffords is Jewish and a non-believer. She deserves death? The young man, who came to her aid, is gay (plus Hispanic). He deserves death too?

Let's just kill anybody who is "different". This is AMERICA where anyone who is different from the majority, whatever that is, has the same RIGHTS as anybody else.
