Survey: Four in Five Americans Support Amendment to Overturn Citizens United
http://onthehillblog.blogspot.com/2011/01/survey-four-in-five-americans-support.html

On the eve of the one-year anniversary of the Supreme Court's controversial ruling in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, a new public opinion survey finds that 79 percent of Americans sharply disapprove of the decision and support a constitutional amendment to reverse the court's ruling.

The study, conducted by the respected Hart Research Associates polling organization on behalf of Free Speech for People, confirmed previous polls that found wide-ranging and strong disapproval for the decision but is the most comprehensive to date to measure public support for enacting a constitutional amendment, according to Free Speech for People, which describes itself as a a national non-partisan campaign "working to restore democracy to the people and to return corporations to their place as economic rather than political entities."

1. That's a constitutional amendment I could really get behind!
Screw 'corporate personhood' and the supremes who attempt to legitimize it.

2. And I bet 4/5 americans believe it'll never happen.
That's how I feel.

Platitudes about how bad it is and yet somehow it'll stick around forever.

3. Yeah now try to translate that popularity into..............
action with this Congress. With a few NOTABLE exceptions, the current Congresspeople LIKE the ruling. It makes fundraising easier. Just go to your local USCOC bagman.

6. yeah, but do they have highly paid lobbyists helping finance campaigns?
Until they (we) do, that opinion is probably going to be ignored.

7. Four out of five. I guess that means it has no chance. SO CLOSE THOUGH! It's really a shame.

Maybe if it was 9 out of 10? Yeah, yeah I know... "keep dreamin'!" Even that wouldn't be enough. It can join opposition to the war in Afghanistan and a Public Option for health insurance on the pile of ideas supported by a vast majority of Americans but without a fucking prayer in the world of getting past American elites and their henchmen.

10. Yes!
That is a movement I can get behind. That Supreme Court decision alone was a death knell to our already morbid republic.

Instead, crickets.

13. Not only do I support that, I support impeachment proceedings for the justices who made it happen.
Scalia, Alito, Thomas, etc should be all impeached and imprisoned for this.

19. A minority of corporate Republicans will be able to
stop that in its tracks. We are being ruled by minority money elites, not the majority of the people. We are no longer functioning like a democracy or even a republic with representation from the majority.
