Seattle man acquitted in TSA airport case
An Albuquerque jury acquitted a Seattle man on Friday who had refused to show his ID to Transportation Security Administration officers at a New Mexico airport in 2009.

Phil Mocek had been on trial for four misdemeanor charges, including failing to obey an officer and concealing his identity at Albuquerque International in November of 2009.

According to the Seattle Weekly, Mocek, a 37-year-old software developer, had no form of valid ID when he reached the front of an airport security line. He was told to step out of line for further questioning.

According to the Weekly, Mocek had refused to give his name or leave the airport when ordered, after police said he caused a disturbance in which he allegedly yelled, "I know my rights!" He also used his cell phone to record the incident.

1. Apparently he doesn't know his rights
Even if he got away with the incident, he does not have the right to get on an airplane without his ID, and he didn't. And never should. It's amazing how DU has gotten so twisted that people think this guy's behavior is ok.

2. Clearly the jury doesn't agree with you.

3. You forgot your sarcasm tag.
Because otherwise if you really believed such tripe, well that would be just pathetic.

Because what's twisted is that some people actually think that's it wrong to stand up for one's rigths. And that standing up for your rights is somehow subversive.

Anyone. Thinking. This. Way. Has. Been. Totally. Brainwashed.

"Innocent until proven guilty" has no meaning anymore.

- In my view and well as the Founding Fathers, anyone who thinks this way doesn't deserve any freedom......

7. I do agree with you that he was required to show ID
I would guess that this jury nullification of his 'crime' is a reaction to the heavy-handedness that the TSA jackboots have demonstrated in other incidents.

May they lose all criminal and civil cases, as a result of the American public being tired of being treated like terrorists.

9. Actually...
the TSA says you CAN fly without ID and gives information about what will occur (other means of verification). Since he didn't have an ID on him, he wasn't concealing it. He can also videotape apparently. TSA doesn't actually have most police powers, but rely on intimidation and misconception, apparently even amongst their own employees.
This traveler has done this repeatedly before and has an anti-TSA organization.

10. What jury nullification? What crime did he commit, exactly?
Since when not showing ID is a crime?

11. You don't have to have ID to board a domestic flight.
Do a little research and maybe you will know YOUR rights.

6. Acquittal
In an era where our civil liberties and rights are being constantly eroded and erased, it is good to see some justice. The TSA goons are mostly school drop outs and functionally illiterate and are paid minimum wages and so you can expect to be mistreated and abused by them at their whim.

8. Ok maybe it's just me, but I don't think people should get on planes without ID
I would never think of going through security without ID. I never go anywhere without it.

12. When I was a kid, we were taught the evils of The USSR ...
... and how its citizens were unable to travel without papers.
